The midfield were shown up AGAIN today. Capt Johno and Foley were given a lesson on how effective a midfielder should be. Burgoyne kicked Johno's A*** and 4 goals to boot. Foley was badly beaten by Kane Cornes. Unlike our midfielders who cant kick to position/havent any penetration in their kicking and dont handball to team mates with hospital handballs. When you cant win it out of the middle you have no chance of winning the game. Please tell me Terry WHAT you see in Chris Hyde and Jay Shultz. Only shinning light was Jack R and Richo kicking straight and Thirsty to a certain extent. Get rid of this handball madness and kick it. OOPS I forgot WE CAN'T DO EITHER AT RICHMOND.
RECRUIT players that can deliver by FOOT (both feet).
You have to admire Port's kicking to position and kicking for goal unlike the TURNOVER/ClANGER KINGS (Richmond)
The seaons end cant come quick enough.
One p***** off Tiger supporter.

Good post. The skill level of our midfield (and all of our players for that matter) is deplorable; especially the kicking. From now on exceptional foot skills should be the prerequisite for any future RFC recruit. I don't give a *smile* if they're big or small. Just pick blokes who can bloody kick!!!

The question people should ask themselves is WHY do we handball?

We handpass so often because we have a team that refuses to run hard into space to provide an option for the player with the ball.

Watch Cousins, Kerr, Robery Harvey....and the Burgoynes/Cornes today.
They have a team-mate on half back with the ball, and they sprint their guts out onto the wing, into open space, to provide an outlet and to get the ball moving forward.

We don't have that....our players jog around, all within metres of their opponent, and when the ump says 'play on', our player with the ball handpasses, and then the 'keystone cops' act on half-back, like something from the Benny Hill Show, begins, which of course leads to a turnover and an oppositon goal.

Until we learn or recruit players who are willing to throw their stomachs up for the team, then we'll continue to play our comedy act out on the field.

Great post. This is the key source of all our problems. Until we recruit another 6-8 midfield players who have size, speed, footy smarts, aerobic capacity and most of all who can use the ball (especially with their feet), we'll stay on the bottom.

The lack of a midfield is why our forward line, that does contain some decent players continues to struggle. How can you function as a forward the way we delivery the ball. Same with the backline. Because we're dominated by opposition midfields (especially players with leg speed and kicking skills), the backline is constantly under siege. Thursfield and McGuane look like useful players. However it would help if the ball wasn't coming in to their opponents 60+ times a game, often via a well directed kick!

Perhaps missing Kreuzer in the draft will at least force us to pick the best available midfielder. Because until we get this part of the ground right, we're wasting our time.

Its an interesting point....Kruezer is an excellent prospect...however our midfield is completely useless. It needs to b addressed....skillful tough midfielders need to be injected into this team...if we get pick 2 i wont be totally annoyed....well ok i will be...but the middle of the ground is a complete dibacle at the moment.

What surprised me most was Port pace around the ground. Our runners were constantly under pressure.

Disappointing that we've spent the last 3 years recruiting all these wingers & flankers, and we're still getting beaten for pace.

This is true...however most of these recruits were not in the team -
Deledio, Meyer, Polo, JON, Casserly, Conners, Tambling, Collins, Peterson, White etc

...geez we cant have screwed that aspect of drafting as well ...surely.

We are going backwards with our skills.

We are the dumbest and least skillful football side by a mile.

This week Im reading we need a midfeild, last week KPP players (Buddy & Roughie). Our drafting over the last few years we have done excellent (except Kk) since Wallace has come and he has cleaned out quite a few players, well over 20 in just a short time. We can't expect miracles but allow time for these players to gel togerther.

Our young players are being psuhed aside abit by other oppositional hardened players who have been in the system 5+ years but the clubs are addressing that with many kids doing extra weights to bulk up.

The famous Bris midfield took awhile to hit their straps but of memory it took over 5 years for them to really gel.

We have been unlucky with key injuries & although its not an excuse it is an factor in our club because we dont have the depth.

Players like Edwards (1st yr), King (1st year), Polak, Reiwolt (1st yr) - these are 4 great addition that were drafted just last year & I support Miller in what he states. Our midfield had to be fixed first & drafting in recent years has attempted to fix that not KPP.
hawks got thos e young KPP, why because their seasoned midfeild needed targets, they too now wll need to look at youth in the midfield & might collapse next year. If you can't feed your forwards they are wasted !

Perhaps a new poll should be - Is this the worst Richmond midfield ever?

ToO , Why only the Midfield ?

Come season's end , if our record is 1 - 20 -1 (a 99.99% possibility) then I believe without a Shadow of Doubt , this Whole List will be classified as the worst ever fielded by the Richmond Football Club

take out foley and what is our midfield?

johnson, tuck, jackson, tivendale, hyde, howat

did someone say "mediocre", well your being too kind

deledio, tambling, edwards, foley, connors, polo is a bit of a future midfield rotation with casserly, jon and meyer on hbf/wing

add a classy finisher in cotchin, 2 good junior rucks and another tough inside mid and its a start and only a start not the solution

I started a similar thread today as to thinking this team's currently worse than 2004.
Certainly can't remember a worse Richmond team than this one in my lifetime but I honestly think the midfield is absolutely the key problem.
Foley's promising but we are the only team in the comp bereft of a genuine star mid.

Some kids are showing promise but we have just gotta keep turning them over and getting rid of the hacks in this chicken sh!t outfit.

I hear ya Mate............................Seriously , I've run out of things to say.

Everythings been covered a thousand times over and the simple Truth of the matter is it'll be Years (not within the next 3 or 4) till this Team is even close to being competitive on a consistent basis.

Your right about the Midfield though , that's where it all "Start's" , anyone with an ounce of Footy Knowlegde can figure that out.

Foley's tryin' his heart out , but until we come up with the other 3 spot's a spot in the Basement is an absolute Cert. I'm afraid.
