Yep, the rule is silly, but that is the rule at the moment. You and I are just fans/club members so our opinions are just ignored by the AFL. I would far prefer a deliberate out of bounds rule, easier to adjudicate and clearer. More throw ins, but so what.

DS

It's got to be the hardest sport in the world to umpire and the AFL just make it worse by demanding that the umpires have to make such subjective assessments.

I am not in favour of "last touch" but I think it would be better than the current situation - and over time the players would come to understand where they sit and would adjust accordingly.

My preferred solution? A bit radical but here goes.
If the ball goes OOTF in the conventional manner then it is a free kick to the opposition as we have always known it.
Otherwise, if it is just OOB, then the ball still goes to the opposition, but the kick that the opposition gets is not markable by a team-mate - i.e. the penalty for last touch is somewhat reduced as the opposition gets it but it is effectively a play-on situation.

If the ball goes out of bounds, just throw it in!
There is no need for any other ruling.
So what if it was deliberate , or possibly so , or accidental, or off the ground?
OOTFull...ok, give a free.
Otherwise, just throw it in.
No confusion, no debate, no room for error. No bias.
Why do we give a rats if someone deliberately made it go out?
I like throw ins. A good ruck contest and a hard ground ball contest. Interesting football.

Oh mercy! :ROFLMAO:

I can hear Cam Rayner now. "It's ok Rhys, not everyone hates you, you're not a total flog, you're definitely AFL standard."

Reports Lachie Neale wants to be traded back to Freo. Looks like he’s had enough ‘straight sets’ :)

Geez Jazzy, you’re sounding like TBR here. Daniel kicks it out of mid air, he’s leg aiming straight down the field, he’s hit the ball on the side of his boot. There’s no “Insufficient intent” here, just bad luck.
Na, it wasn’t well struck but didn’t think he was aiming straight down the ground. Haven’t seen a replay so might be wrong. On first viewing appeared he was aiming wing boundary.

Gee there sure are a lot of mediocre sides going around in 2021.

If we gave two shites we’d give it a shake no problem.

Turnover footy still wins and as much as it pains me to say it, Port and Melbourne are miles ahead of the rest. Light years.

At least we get 10 mins of porn next Friday night when the losing coach does his presser

It’s actually “Hear Hear” - it means “Listen to him!” or “Hey, everyone should hear this!”

Don’t normally correct people (though every “your” instead of “you’re” or that Americanism “lay” instead of “lie” annoys me) - but this common error really aggravates my goat
Here here.

Fagan thinks this loss will eat away at the players and they’ll come back better next year.
Sure he said this last year as well
Brisbane going to be extra hungry that Neale is leaving

Neale wanting to raise an unborn kid, 4500km away from where you're contracted to work for huge pay for the next 2 years,

isnt 'family reasons' IMHO.

do they think if they see out the contract, and the kid goes to WA to live the rest of its life from 2 years of age,

its going to grow up with a picture of Matt Canavan on the wall?

I'd be playing unprecedented hardball if this story is as reported

Bulldogs love fest on SEN, the battler narrative cringe is alive and well. Gerard couldn't find Footscray with a map.

Lions had 2 guys off from half-time, had to battle the chucking and the umps and just miss. And the Lions had to unfortunately rely on the talents of lazy Joe Daniher as their key forward. He put in one of the worst key forward finals performances in living memory. 66 inside 50's and he manages 6 touches and a goal. Physically gifted more than most but so *smile* lazy. He'd have a 1000 page thread if he played for the tigers.

Yep, Joe is overrated especially by himself. As the old saying goes " He's a Legend in His Own Lunchbox"
