Welcome back Bruce

Again, I’ll state that I’m no fan of channel 9 (especially after the many golf fiascos there’s been) and no fan of McGuire the man either.

However, he’ s got a LOT more cache than boring old jumper wearing Bwuce has when it comes to covering a game of football. He raises much more interesting topics, is prepared to voice his opinion on them, and isn’t afraid of the authorities (i.e. the AFL) like the dweeble little Bwucey is. McGuire is prepared to go the “scandal” route whereas Bwuce would prefer to talk about the mundane e.g. how McLeod has kicked 3.3 over the last 3 games from outside 50m on the left hand side of the ground. Booooring !!!

At the end of the day the networks will put on a well performed controversial commentator with something to say – irrespective of whether the public like him/her or not – over a well performed but static performer. This is because the networks want the audience to experience an emotion, even if its dislike. Nobody on this forum can tell me that McGuire doesn’t create an emotion (good or bad). Bwuce creates no emotion and it is for that reason I wouldn’t be surprised if the execs at 7 don’t give him the prominence that you are all expecting.

9’s commentary teams poo all over ANYTHING 7 has ever come up with. Let me remind you of some of the 7 commentators of relatively recent past: Morphet (oh, my God), McKenna (they dragged him straight off the Thunderbirds I’m sure), Robertson (a non-entity if there’s ever been one), Don Scott (ha hah hah….), Sandy Roberts (“he’s put that in the Mayor’s office”), Graeme Cornes (ha hah hah…), Dipper (hah hah hah…), Dermott (they too have employed him), KB (sooooooft !), Commetti is about the only decent one I can think of. Hey, maybe they’ll bring on Gordon Bray !! Yeeeee-haaaa !!

You’re just getting over-excited about the demise of the evil empire and its mouthpiece - which is understandable. Once boring old Bwuce gets a year of anchoring back under his belt you’ll all again be moaning about the fact 7’s coverage lacks spark – the very thing they lacked for the 40 years that they had football beforehand.

Dont you think Ch7 would have learnt from the past?

I'd take Dipper before Christi Malthouse any day when it comes to boundary reports.  Everytime she speaks it sounds like she's a lady who wants to go home.

Maybe you're right Maybe they’ll get him to stop tilting his head and staring into the camera for us when he smiles ? And they might get him to grow a goatee as well ! Coool.

You never know Mad Cow Hatter…you never know.

I'm gunna have a bob each way, Bruce has his good points, as does McGuire (except when he's commentating Collingwood games, which he simply shouldn't do, should excuse himself for percuniary interest like everyone else in every field of politics, business, sport whatever.  I've always thought he did it simply as a bald controversy generator).  Apart from McGuire's Collingwood bias when either commentating or MCing TFS, I think he's a good entertainer.

9 does have better production values, but I don't think it makes that much difference, if any, to 'the viewing experience'.  However, I reckon 7 would have watched and learnt and will lift their game.

Graham Cornes and Don Scott would fight the worst of all time award for me, but I reckon that dinosaur boys club era is over.

So did you nominate for Brucey's spot or what ?

These issues are all really just fluff for me, the bottom line is that when Richmond play Carlton, (if I haven't gone to the pub to watch it) I won't have to stay up until 1.15 AM (half an hour past the advertised time), after 'The Bachelorette Grandmother", and reruns of Hey Dad.   I reckon 7 will delay such games until 10.30-11, which is OK.

She speaks? Really? I hadn't noticed.

I reckon 7 might surprise a few people.....
To those who know me...rambling on in other threads.....this is repeating myself again....but here goes (again)
In 2001,my mate(now sadly deceased)Bomberjohn and I,in QLD,got to watch 21 games live of our respective clubs...Thats the gospel truth to anyone that doubts me......Allowing for the fact that the Tigers were very competitive that year.....not only did 7 have LIVE coverage on Friday nite,Saturday and Sunday, but their pay telly partner,C7 sport had 2 channels covering other games....Yes,In QLD,we were bloody spoilt ill tell ya for free.....and the good thing was,as true blue Victorians,we always got the BLOCKBUSTER Melbourne traditional games live........Then 9 got the rights.....Im tellin ya...it wasnt the same after that....for example.....with 9....even though there would be an essendon/caaaaaarlton game happening or pies and Caaaaaarlton....,the would show port Adelaide vs freo,or wce vs swannies,or some such crap game like that.....get my drift? There seemed to be a bias against the Melbourne based sides.....
So,Im hoping for All footy fans in Australia, that it gets back to pre_channel 9 coverage......not that I have an issue with the quality of channel 9,s coverage. Some posters have rightly pointed out that that 9 have definitely raised the bar in the quality of game coverage and innovation....but,when its all said and done...the onus is on 7 to not only match the standards that 9 have set,but actually exceed them....even I know that is how business works......besides,its good timing seeing that premiership glory is a hell of a lot closer for Richmond that a lot of yous think ;)
