Yes, you have explained yourself very well. As I said previously…, very harsh and clearly why you’re not on the training staff or selection panel!

I’m hoping Miller does well tomorrow too. We need him and Gibcus both firing if we make it into September. Anything that helps free up Balta’s freedom to go forward or back up our rucking will be a great help.

I’ll leave it on one final note. You forgot to note Gibcus has kicked a goal in 3 of those 5 games you refer to. That’s real bad too I suppose?

Sorry, but he was moved forward because he was being beaten playing back, surely you get that yeah?

I want every player to play well but if they are not il call it. I was not happy with miller this year and thought he should be dropped. To his credit, he went back to the ressies and refined his game. One-on-one marking/contest work he has improved but offensively has improved out of sight.

Harsh? what part of my post did you not understand. Did I make up some untruths, I think not.

Anyways, I guess no one on PRE should critique players if not on the match committee what a ludicrous thing to say.
Final one, If he comes back through the reserves I guess my comments will be justified.

That's great he has a motor and not bad for a player of his height for repeat sprints., but you're missing the point here. I'm talking about his output of late, too many unforced errors, decision-making costing goals, spoiling when should be marking etc

His one-on-one contest work isn't up to it at this early stage, no doubt a few preseasons in the gym he will stack it on.
Also, I mentioned offensively ain't giving us much with the ball in hand. Miller has been doing it in the ressies regularly but can he translate that to the seniors, time will tell.

Oh, my constructive criticism was that he started the season well and should've had a rising star award by now and we know we have a seriously talented player on our hands who needs to go back to the 2's and improve/refine his game and his confidence will return which he'll come back to the seniors a much better player. This is based on the last 4-5 weeks in which he hasn't played to that level as he did in the first half of the year. I am telling it like it is, it's an honest assessment based on his output.

You're carrying on like a first-year player should not be dropped on sub-par performances. I don't care who it is, if a player like Miller or Stack or Cumberland or Sonsie etc are playing well then they should be rewarded for their performances.

The last 5 weeks beaten by buddy, by marshall and darling out marked him plenty of times (i blame the match committee for playing him on these experienced players), he was on a hiding to nothing. His confidence looks shot and he seems now to be second-guessing himself. You then add in the turnovers, he went at 54%.

Against Carlton 7 disposals and 43 meters gained. Against Cats, 3 disposals and 39 meters gained and took 1 mark. How much more do I need to explain this.

I'm glad Miller has come in and hope he gets the same run as Gibcvus. Illness or managed as the previous time he was out, I reckon this time he comes back via the reserves.

Anyways, leaving it there!!!
Think he's learning on how a fwd thinks to become a very good fwd imo.
Deliberate strategy by the coaching staff to be Jacks successor up fwd.

He is going to be so versatile, he has that advantage of elevation just springs off the ground and can take a really good mark.
Not sure where he is best suited, long-term weapon at either end.

As much as we are needing Balta as 2nd ruck. Can you imagine Balta and Gibcus holding down the key defensive posts for the next decade.

Samson Ryan, I rate too and he could well develop into a 2nd ruck/forward option in the seniors in coming years.

Despite availability I'm not sure Josh comes straight back into the ones.
Was pretty ordinary in the previous couple of weeks.

I see the backline make up as

Baker Tarrant Grimes
Vlastuin Balta Rioli
Broad

Forward? I dunno. A bit worried about messing with his development.
I think I'd rather he get his confidence up a little at VFL level & try a specialist forward in Bauer or even Ryan up front.

Thoughts?

I can see Balta going forward while Lynch is out, which means Josh may get a reprieve.

On the sample seen so far Balta isn't a forward.
He's equal-4th at the club for goals this year despite playing mainly in defence. Going at a goal a game, better than renowned forwards like Robbie Gray, Dan Butler, Sonny Walters, Sam Reid. Definitely worth persisting with forward while we have Taz, and a certainty to play there when second rucking - which should be Plan A for the rest of the year unless Ryan comes in and knocks our socks off.

Mind you, if Ryan is up to it, Balta back would make our defence extremely strong. Gibcus might get forced out.

Balta played better forward when he is the first or 2nd main forward. He wasn't performing well when Jack and Tom were both down there.

Even if he is kicking a goal a game he looks lost. I think he is a straight ahead footballer, when he has to lead up and turn he looks hesitant and loses his natural instinct. Less he thinks the better. Rance was the same.

Long term one of Gibcus or Balta need to go forward.

So true, The more you think in any game, you tend to lose focus on the bigger picture

he plays better when he isnt playing alongside Jack, Tom, Nank and Soldo.

i reckon he is a far better defender than forward, but this year we are stronger when he plays 3rd tall/2nd ruck, not Soldo. if we want to contend this year he needs to play forward, IMO.
