Welcome Noah Cumberland

This kid is a rough diamond. I like him, a lot. Will make mistakes, but must be played, and coached well, and he’ll be a match winner in time.

Just keep playing him , starting to make oppositions worry , definitely that mercurial ex factor we need in the forward line

I think the issue with kicking across to a player in the corridor has a few factors, and I'll add that Cumberland was far from the only culprit here.

You watch these kicks and they are going straight to the player the ball is being passed to, the accuracy of the kick is not the issue. Happened many times last night.

But, there was no awareness that a Footscray player was in a position to intercept the pass. Plus, the receiving player was standing still.

The idea of going into the corridor is fine, it is the execution which is a mess. The execution is a mess for 2 reasons:
  • Lack of awareness on the part of the player with the ball, they need to be looking for potential intercepts, aware of how many opponents are nearby and how long it would take for the opponent to reach the receiving player.
  • The receiving player needs to be moving, they are way too static. When we look good we are passing between moving players which makes intercepts and spoils so much harder. When a player just stands like a scarecrow waiting for a pass it makes it so much easier to intercept or spoil.
Cumberland should not be a scapegoat for a team deficiency and he needs to stay in the team. Needs the experience and we need his skills.

DS
Spot on. It was poor decision making by young players (Cumberland & Clarke) rather than lack of skill. This should be improved by time/experience plus coaching.

We can see in that half of footy why Mansell was preferred for the first two rounds
Don’t understand what you mean. Cumberland has one, should have had a holding the ball. Always looks a chance. Why has Mansell been better.

Hes trying to pull off a few too many miracles. Needs to play % a bit more. It'll come.

Thought he was good. He makes things happen in the forward line and 8 tackles is a good defensive effort (game high by the way)

Was decent tonight. If he fumbles less could have another couple of goals.

With Bolton, Dusty and Cumberland all forward it’s not exactly the most defensive set up. But we have not been winning the ball out of the middle to give him one on ones which he is good at.
