Welcome Noah Cumberland

I’d just be telling him to keep attacking the ball - get to every contest you can. Forget the mistakes, take the game on. Looks like he dwells far too much on mistakes - persevere.

Well, well well
12 games - gets us going tonight. 3 goals, was electric, and tackled and chased when the GAME WAS HOT

And Hardwick can barely say a good word about him in the Presser. Has to bite his tongue to prevent himself from bagging him.

Its called talent Damien.
And yes he drifted out of the game - its his 13th game…
What is your opinion on Mansell and Hugo’s last few weeks????

Makes me angry and so disappointing- unfair

I think you are hearing what you want to hear. To me Dimma seemed very upbeat and positive about Cumbo but said he had things he needed to work on, when pushed by the journo he said very quickly "staying in games". I think thats very fair. Dimma even mentioned that we changed our forward structure a bit to accommodate him (thats pretty positive that he wants him in the team).

Cumbo had 5 kicks 3 goals in the first quarter and ended with 7 kicks and 3 goals.

The reason he didn't say anything about Hugo or Mansell is probably because no-one asked him. He's hardly going to sit there and go "gee how bad were Hugo and Mansell, shizen right".

Brilliant early was the Cummerbund n then disappeared for a fair bit of the game. Gotta commend him for that classy little sidestep goal assist to the Dusty one late in the game and commiserate for that mongrel little Dees gingers brilliant effort in smothering the attempted centering kick also late in the game.

Got plenty of footy nous has the Cummerbund, just gotta keep diggin n pickin to get it all out of him.

They ask about Cumberland because he does special stuff.
Of course they are not going to ask about the other two.
And of course he has to improve, who would say otherwise. My question was a rhetorical one about Mansell
And Hugo. It stems from Mansell playing ahead of him which was a joke.

To me Hardwick compliments Noah through gritted teeth, probably because he knows he made a mistake early rounds when didn’t play him.
I saw Mansell against North in the Praccy match and he played like last night - invisible.
It was amazing he was getting picked ahead of Noah ‘becauae Noah plays too much like Dusty’.
Hardwick cannot even say ‘yeah he has been really good for us since he came back in and given us a spark’
Anyway I have posted all my reasons in previous posts as well.
ps. He could have had 4 if he marked Dusty’s pass to him in the goal square but he did team thing and let it go.!

You obviously missed the bit where he said that he could rip open a game, and thats what they love about him, he said that he's capable of anything, and they love his energy and that he can be a difference maker and they are excited about him.

Interesting that he said "we'd like to get there a bit quicker" so it sounds like they've had these discussions with Cumbo and he isn't quite getting everything the coaches are trying to push to keep him involved more and become more than that sort of cameo player that he is right now because he flits in and out of games.

There was clearly excitement there in what Dimma said and a bit of frustration and I think thats because they know how good he can be and how much more damaging he can be, but he isn't quite there yet. Interesting he mentioned body language that others have mentioned on here.

Fair enough I just watched it again - your points are valid.
Channel 7 cut him off last night half way through this discussion!
He was more effusive in the back half of what he said - I will take my medicine and calm down..

I get where you are coming from if you only saw the first question, when Dimma was pushed a bit more, a lot more came out on the 2nd question when he was pushed by the journo on what he meant. He was trying to be diplomatic I think to start with, and then allowed his true enthusiasm to come out around him.

Loved his first half. Couldn't get a touch in the 2nd but he kicked a 1/3 of our score so did his job.

I do wish he would turn around to look for better options inside 50 when he marks the ball on the 50m line, he did that last week too. He missed the set shot (might have fallen short, I can't recall). It's fine for him to back himself but he should be keeping his eyes open for other players when he's that far out. Can’t do that with your back to the goals.

He had an electric first quarter but completely faded out after that. That’s what Hardwick is talking about. You can’t play games in 15 minute bursts.

I think some of this is a composure thing. Its like in the 3rd, we were kicking to the City, he's running onto a loose ball that is bouncing towards the boundary line, instead of doing the smart team thing and picking it up, waiting for contact and then going over the line so we can setup for the F50 stoppage, he decided to either try and keep the ball moving (or worse trying to kick a miracle goal) by kicking the ball out of the air right on the boundary line and kicking it straight out on the full.

Composure will help him make the right decisions. Even that last play in the 4th when Bowey smothered his centreing kick, he had so much time, it was obvious that someone was going to dive across his foot to try and smother, but awareness would have known there was no-one else nearby, could have sidestepped and then delivered the ball.

These are thing that will come with experience, he's still only played what 13 games. This is symtomatic of a lot of our kids, they do things that in another 20-30 games, they won't be doing anymore and will be making better decisions. Its kind of where out list balance is a little out of whack, our average age / games looks like we are super experienced by reality is we have an old and very experienced group at the top end, and a very young and inexperienced group at the bottom end.

I hope Dimma's 'tough love' strategy pays off & Noah becomes a superstar.
Yep this is his angle - he thinks Hugo can be a superstar matchwinner so is pushing him to be greater.

Hope he has the psychology right - but you think he would know the player better than we do.

If Noah has 7 possessions & 3 goal games every week I’d take it. Dimma has a lot more worries he needs to focus on.

Think you’ll find that he dropped a relatively easy chest mark in that passage of play and probably went for the miracle kick out of frustration. It was a very undisciplined act and think that’s the side of his personality that Dimma is trying to stamp out.

Yep, this must be part of Dimma's criticism. Cumbo's got a face bottled with emotion.

Yes, I saw that frustration in Cumberland in the Footscray game. It is a bit of a balancing act I think. He was clearly p!ssed off with himself, and that is a good thing as he is expecting better of himself. It gets called petulance because he shows it. What he needs to learn is to internalise that frustration and shelve it away for later. Yes, expect more of yourself, but also give yourself a break sometimes, Australian Rules at the highest level is a hard game. Plus, don't pause to dwell on mistakes at the time, think about it later with some time for reflection and in the moment just go to the next contest.

These things are more a reflection of lack of experience and stepping up to the highest level. I am confident he will learn how better to deal with his mistakes, accept every player makes mistakes and learn from the mistakes.

A little bit of context for the Hardwick haters in this thread. Last year Cumberland averaged 1.9 tackles per game across 9 games. This year he’s averaging 4.2 from 4 games so far.

Let’s not completely rule out the idea that maybe, just maybe Hardwick knows what he’s doing here.

Can't pick this station due to interference from SEN Track (?) on the radio. On Internet you have to open an account to hear these pricks while other stations provide free hearing....huh?? I heard some chat with Caro and Tony Shaw and Huddo more about Dimma and Benny leaving in the next 2 years, but they made it sound like we're in crisis mode.....just rubbish talk IMO. Caro changes her mind about Dimma proves it's just opinion and not fact.
