Too many people worry. This having to be fit at the start of pre-season is a nonsense, that is what pre-season is actually for - to get fit for the games.

Depends what you mean by fit. You don't need them ready for round 1 in December but it is pretty crucial to be fit and healthy to get a full pre-season program in more often than not, especially when you are young.

Each time you complete a strong pre-season you increase your capacity to go further next time, so getting training years under your belt is critical to unlock elite fitness. In most cases you need 4-6 training years to be able to hit best of the best levels

If Sonsie is unable to complete pre-season again, he is already two training years behind his peers and the work is starting to pile up.

Each player is given an off season program they’re expected to complete.
Nothing strenuous, just turning the wheels over.
Some players use this time to push themselves through extra running or strength and conditioning however the majority of players really need this time to refresh both physically and mentally. Many are also getting over injuries and niggles.
If Sonsie is right for first day of preseason, he should be right however as TBR notes, he’s already had a limited 2021/22 preseason and could have done with a bit of catch up.
In Stacks case, with already a very limited endurance base, it was obvious that he loses fitness very quickly if he doesn’t maintain a regular program. Other players who are more athletically gifted can get away with a lot more.

Pretty impressed by how well the Sonsie got himself into the game. Didn't realise he was getting that involved until I saw this.

To be in the league's top 25 for Score Involvements per game and not far off the Top 10.

Plus he had less game time and less disposals than probably everyone on that list, shows he was pretty effective when he got the ball in his hands.

And he's around Brownlow winners, good signs.

A lot of good and experienced players averaged lower than him, he averaged more than some Brownlow Medallists and Club Captains.

Dyer'ere talks about players having (or not) a plan for the ball. Sonz has an instinct. He just knows where it should go next and invariably gets it there.

With 2 more inside bulls and Dusty back to a decent level Tyler will be getting alot of opportunities to do some damage and use his skills and smarts to put richmond in a good position.

The fowards are going to be licking their chops

Lynch - 70 goals
Jack - 50
Dusty - 30
Cumberland 30
Shai - 50

Yep that was the draft profile I remember, great hands and skills.

“A clean and damaging player possessing the best two-sided kick in the draft pool, Sonsie is a stoppage specialist with slick hands and smarts. Likened by recruiters to Richmond champion Trent Cotchin, such a comparison is evident in his stoppage work; able to win first possession with quick anticipation and clean hands to set up midfield thrusts.

At stoppages, Sonsie is dynamic in reading taps with good timing and quick thinking, hitting the ball at pace and doing so cleanly. There aren’t many players as clean as Sonsie at stoppages as he never fumbles and with good agility, can escape congestion and find targets by hand or foot to set up plenty of drive from the contest.

Sonsie’s two ripping goals against Calder Cannons both came off his opposite foot and if there is a player in recent memory that could execute the same goals - 2001 Brownlow Medalist Jason Akermanis. Sonsie could even get close to that level he, is going to be a special player."

There's a passage of play from 23 seconds in on the boundary throw in. Sonsie picks up a loose ball and with about 10-12 players around the area without even looking he handballed to a teammate while he was getting his guernsey pulled off him. That's how you get involved in scoring involvements, a great ability to know who's around you and what to do when you get the ball.

Probably the player I’m most excited about for 2023. Huge scope to go to the next level if he gets a good preseason in.

The Sonz is the player that we want to have the ball in his hands.
Appears to have good peripheral vision, is good off the left and right peg.
Hopper and Taranto should allow him to play in the first receiver role.
I’m excited.

Wife and I had dinner with a family whose kid was in Tyler's football team throughout childhood.

There Sonsie is, down the end.

So just repeating what I heard.

  • There was once where Tyler was sick, he had picked up a bad cold, and looked like :poo:. The coach said to the dad that he probably shouldn't play. But Tyler's dad said "he wants to play, chuck him in a pocket". He kicked 14 goals, 6 on the left, 8 off his right.
  • He was a gun player from his first game. Already he had time and space where other kids would just hoof it.
  • He wasn't a selfish gun, either. He'd bring his team mates into the game.
  • He could be (don't shoot the messenger) "as good as Dusty if things pan out as we and the coach expect. Yeah, he's that good!"
  • He was BOG more often than not.
  • The club thought he'd go early first round, but Covid messed his head (we knew this).
  • The family I had dinner with are Hawk supporters and they were annoyed they picked Connor MacDonald with Pick 26, instead of Tyler.
Anyway, I got excited listening to the positive feedback on our newish recruit, thought I'd share the joy.

Tyler and Mojo have me most excited about what they could be in 2023. Sounds like, from Ceaser's reporting that Sonsie has done 85% of the preseason which is a really good sign.

We don't have anyone else on the list who has a skillset like Tyler. Goalkicking mids are what we lack. I don't have a handle for what Tyler's ceiling is overall.

Would hope to see him play 15+ games average 15-18 touches and kick 10-15 goals.

I reckon Swiz will get Chimpa's number 9 straight after he retires. Just like Shedda's to Mozz.

The junior I'm most excited about this season. He's a top 23 player for sure. For mine he gets his opportunities after the big four in the middle: Taranto, Hopper, Prestia and Bolton (assuming Martin plays predominantly forward). Like Gibcus - he is too good to play seconds. We must reward talent matched with work rate with a place in the senior team. Even as a second year player he will make us a much better team.

Moju, Sonz, Miller, Ross, Cumberland if all go up a gear in 2023 then that will be hugely significant and have a huge bearing on the season and its results.

Especially when you add a fresh and reinvigorasted focussed Tiger King, Timmeh and Hopper its a bit hard to not start having expectations.

MRJ is already the best pressure forward in the AFL, stunning set of numbers, Cyril would be proud & I daresay we have a 200 gamer on our hands.
