i much prefer the countdown clock, i don't see why if that info is available that we shouldn't be able to see it.

and i believe the countdown clock should be shown at the ground too.

Something that really frustrates me about the Ch10 coverage is the guy that talks at the start, after the holy grail song. When previewing the game, he bloody makes the game sound like World War 3!

I can't stand that. Whenever I hear that pretentious voice reading that overblown twaddle I instantly turn the volume to mute. I guess it's suppose to be stirring or something? Personally it just bores the living daylights out of me.

Dead right, if the technology is there, use it. Basically they are trying to manufacturer excitement. Well, if you are a couple of points behind or in front with minutes to go, you are going to be jumping out of your seat regardless. It's a pathetic innovation, a laughable one really, as they seem to use it regardless of the scoreline. A team could be leading by 100 points and we still get that idiotic five minute warning. I hated channel 9 having the football but at least they didn't inflict this nonsense upon TV football viewers.

just imagine 2010.
You're at the game.
The Tiges are playing the Doggies in the GF.
30 minute mark last qtr and we are 3 points behind.
Is there enough time for us to get up? The balls in our FP being thrown in.  Is there time?  The excitement, the anxiety is almost overwhelming.  We can win a granny if there's time.

Now imagine being at home watching it on TV.
The countdown clock says 1 second to go.
All hope is extinguished.

The CD Clock doesn't change the result - but it puts a premature end to the hope, the anxiety, the excitement.

BAN IT.

you'll still have those feelings, just 10 seconds earlier, there is still a moment in time when you know you've won or lost. if richmond are going to lose a gf by 3 pts i'd rather know asap, before the siren goes(who'd want to hear the siren if you're going to lose?), so i can turn off the tv, throw the remote across the room, have a cry, and then get on with life 10 seconds earlier than i would have otherwise.

now imagine, still 2010, still richmond down by 3 pts, still 30 min in last qtr, and nathan brown intercepts an off balance akermanis kick and marks 40m out with 5 seconds left, but there is no countdown clock at the ground, he sees lids unmarked 30m out and at a better angle, so instead of having a shot for goal after the siren he kicks to lids, the ball is sailing straight to lids but the siren goes before he can mark it. what are you going to say about no countdown clock at the ground then?

i think the players, umpires, and fans should know how much time is left.

Nah,tigerluke and poppa x........
Being the deity that i am,if youre scenario come up........
I would........BLOODY WELL STOP TIME....until the tigers kicked a lazy 3 goals....then allow time to continue so the siren could go,then it would be drinks on me all-round!!!!! :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi

Coaches have a very good idea about the time remaining, which they then pass onto the runners and hence the players. In your situation, especially if it was a Grand Final, Browny would have a very good idea that there wouldn't be much time remaining. In any case, he's got good footy sense, Browny, he'd look at the clock (because you would if you took a mark with a scoring opportunity late in a GF), see it was 30 mins and know there wouldn't be much time remaining, and then, coupled with what his runners would be telling him, he'd go back and take a shot. Probably taking as much time as possible as well.

It's barely bearable on the TV but it'd ruin the game at the ground, having a CD clock.

It's a hard decision and there will be mixed opinions on it. that is why it will stay the same.

There is no doubt that it manufactures excitement. Personally I don't need contrived excitement, I prefer my excitement from the game itself and don't appreciate being kept in the dark.
