I thought claw was being charitable.
What we saw of *smile* is consistentsy. He is ALWAYS that sh!t .

What i liked about Schulz's game was finally a decent size defender who showed some agility, but also a penetrating kick

I'm pretty sure it was Rodan, not Krak, who didn't follow Bateman when he scored that goal. Bateman gave off the ball on the Medallion wing, Rodan didn't follow him and it ended up ahain with Bateman who slotted the 9-pointer.

oh no here we go again, why oh why did you have to feed the beast TT12. This thread will probobly get hijacked soon ::)

It is easy for us supporters to be disappointed with yesterday's game but we do not know what the coaches had in mind for, and instructed, each player, to do or achieve during the game. We sit on the side lines in isolation of what each player has been instructed to do so we really have no idea of what they were supposed to do out on the battlefield, oops footy ground.

If RFC wanted to have a red hot go at winning the NAB CUP then I don't think that we wouldhave left so many experienced players out of the side. Come round 1 of the real season we will see the likes of Chubba, Gassie, Browny, Petts and Tiva back and everyone else fighting for a place in the side and away we will go, a month at time.

TW has said over and over that he wants to build up the momentum over the entire season and not have the team run out of puff because of a hard campaign early in the year.

He also needs to see how new guys, who have shown promise during the pre-season, go on the field against real opposition and not just team mates in intra-club games. He also needs to see how his experienced guys handle different roles and challenges and the NAB CUP is the ideal comp to do this before conducting experiments and risking premiership points.

Howatt and White showed that they can handle the real stuff but obviously they have lots to learn before hopefully becoming regulars in a good side. Whitey got a corked thigh in his first contest so that may have had an impact on how much game time he got.

I am sure that the rest of the new guys will get their chance when they are fit or opportunity presents.

Humm and Pat Bowden showed the poise that comes from AFL experience and I am sure that we will see Pat rip some canine hearts out in Round 1. Humm needs to get a lucky break to get off the rookie list but he showed his class yesterday and its just a matter of time before he adds depth to our midfield group.

I was really pleased to see Sarge play well but the guy that stood out for me was Chris Newman. He worked hard all day all over the ground.

Hardo and Rodan are still finding their feet since returning from injury but they still had the courage to take on their opponents even after being caught a couple of times. It was their first hit out against real opposition, rather than intra-club stuff so I think we will see this running pair improving over the next couple of weeks as they come up against the Doggies and who ever else we play in the praccy matches.

Tucky, Sugar and Bowdo showed their class all day and although it appeared that silly mistakes were made they showed that they are the engine room of our team.

Krak showed some magic and I reckon he will get even better in the next month or so as his confidence grows from his hard work over the pre-season.

Bling, Raines, Hyde, Patto and Roach have shown improvement and we must not forget that they are still new players at the AFL level so still have lots of room for improvement before establishing themselves at Tigerland.

Lets all keep our fingers crossed that the makeup of our side is not determined by pre-season injuries.

The Tiges have lots of improvement available just through adding experienced players back into the side so losing a Round 1 NAB cup game is not the doom and gloom that some seem to be alluding too.

Hawthorn are going no-where if they can't thrash our youngters with their almost full line-up.

Eat em Alive

Finaly a sensible post.

Good work RJ

Rimau Junior, that was a very positive piece, it sounded something like a Tony Greenberg article - take it as a compliment.

But, I'll be waiting for Patto to rip into the the canine hearts, and for Kraks to play Houdini.....................in the next month.

There have been quite a few sensible posts but unfortunately they have been drowned out by posters that think that cause we have lost one NAB game that it is the end of the world....

Must admit I agree with most of your post Claw. Yes playing the kids was a good thing and hell we still almost won.

Havent seen the game but there sounded like a few positives to take away from Yesterday.

Not all good granted, but think we are moving forward both on and off the field.

Watching the game I was disappointed that we continued to make the same mistakes over and over again - going sideways too often and handballing to players with less space than the person doing the handballing. When we went long and straight we looked so much better. However, I've got six positives and six concerns from the game. 6 Positives:
1. Andrew Raines running game out of defence
2. D-Rod getting back in the action
3. Jeremy Humm showed poise and kicked well
4. Matt White was impressive for his 1st game
5. Patrick Bowden showed that he knows how to find the footy - he just needs to be a bit quicker in getting rid of it
6. Schulz was impressive across half back - with Gas, AK & Thustfiled in support he will become even better

My six concerns:
1. Hartigan appears to still have a problem of not knowing what to do with the ball when he gets it and as a result more often than not he undoes his hard work of getting the ball with a poor disposal - he may not have the "footy smarts' to play at this level - I hope he proves me wrong, though.
2. Roach tried hard on Williams but was never really in the same class - possibly TW left him there all match as a learning experience - hopefully his confidence won't be too dented.
3. If we are going to play Stafford in the forward line it might help if the players kicked the ball to him - otherwise his height is wasted.
4. When our midfield was getting smashed in the 1st 2 1/2 quarters why didn't TW try Newman or even Joel Bowden - our guys looked like rag dolls getting pushed aside at times - some bigger bodies could have helped. Luckily Tucky started getting the ball or it could have been much worse for us.
5. Why did we play such a negative game for most of the match - what has happened to the 16 goals a game mantra? I really hate it when the other team floods and then we just do the same thing and the result is a boring spectacle which we dont seem to play well in. I understand that we can't attack all the time but one of the reasons why we were forever going sideways was too many of our players were behind the ball...
6. Lastly, why do opposition teams run the ball out of our forward line so easily and why does it appear that no Richmond forward is chasing or putting pressure on them (at least that is what it looks like on the TV)...

Despite these concerns - bring on Round 1... I can't wait

You play to win.
Richmond needed to put its best side on the ground.
We needed to win last nights game for membership sales and to get the side moving forward. A lot of people will sit back and say we can not even beat the hawks why should i buy a membership, its just the same old Tigers.
Terry did not coach well last night.

if ferals are expecting to win when we play heaps of kids they deserve all the heartache and pain that comes their way.for gods sake its the start of yr2 of a 5 yr plan we have to start playing lots of the kids. my advice to all ferals is get it into your heads that we are going to lose more than we win. and we will cop our fair share of hidings as well. but all will mnot be doom. we can rejoice in our youngsters and grow with them.just remember we still have many pieces of the puzzle to put in place yet. chf chb a couple of hard at it midfielders one or 2 enforcers who can actually play a small defender are just a few things that spring to mind.

it would seem that our youngsters may be better developed better than the western Bulldogs. However, Shepparton scratch matches probably are best forgotten by the following tuesday.

the big winner: the injury list. No crutches, yet. :clap

Why do you assume those who remain positive and expect to win our share of games will be hurt, and deserve to be, if we don't? They're not the ones who jump on here to vent their anger straight after a loss.

I can do without your advice thanks santa. ;D

I'd much prefer going to games expecting to win than expecting a flogging. At least I've had the pleasure of anticipation and excitement leading up to the game. If we win we win and I'm estatic. If we lose, ho hum. I'll soon get over it and look forward to the next week again.

I actually think we've got a better list now than last year even. More depth and the players ready to step up more than compensate for our delistings the last couple of years.

I don't for one second understand the pessimistic doom and gloom expecting bad things.

Why be miserable about something that just might never happen. ;)

not being miserable rosmerta just stating the obvious. let me say i never come on here after a game and vent my anger because we lost. in fact the only thing i get angry about is the inept performances of our middle tier and senior players and the inept performance of our board which has almost seen us bankrupt. if the ferals had some smarts they would get angry too.

but hey most wont hear of mediocrity at the club most of the fools voted clinton back in. what does that tell ya, it tells me most of our supporters are either deluded or stupid more likely both.

rosmerta when we play lots of kids and we need to, do you really think we will win many games i dont because common sense says we wont.

Playing kids is a difficult thing to manage. If you play kids for the sake of playing kids then yo're going to get smashed and that doesn't help their development. I'd like to see Richmond play the younger developing players, but I want them to have earned their spot before they do get played.

I'd hate to be around if you are miserable sometime then santa. :rofl

I don't understand your obsession with kids. They aren't all going to be played at once. As Carn said they need to earn their spot and of course playing a majority of them when they're not ready would be a recipe for disaster.

Some of the more advanced kids could complement our regular senior players though and I don't see that as a recipe for a flogging at all.

Mark my words. ;D
