Agree, and suggest that the position is largely player driven, because the extra day travelling is classified as the players AFLPA "day off".
Would you work a 13 day fortnight ?
If this is your attitude Victorian clubs deserve to die a slow death.
How many times when Richmond plays a home game has the opposition team had to fly more than 2000km to play that game. On average once a year.
How many times when West Coast plays a home game has the opposition team had fly more than 2000km to play that game, Every single time apart from Derby's.
So they have to fly home and they think its tough, 9 times out of 10 the team they play the next week have to make the same trip but closer to the game.
When Richmond flys home from Perth the chances of the team they play next week making the same trip is about once every 20 seasons.
Let me tell you as one you makes that flight regularly, it often takes less than three hours to fly from Perth to the eastern state. To fly from the eastern states to Perth often takes five hours due to the jetstream. So WC has a relatively easy flight as a precursor to away games. Teams visiting Perth have a much tougher flight.
I have a lot of fun with workmates from the east getting out on the *smile*. Doesn't matter where it is, when it hits 10pm its 8pm for me, they are fading and we ar firing. I guess the same goes for football night games, the WA sides have a definite body clock advantage for night games either side of the country. Funny how their draws are 70% night games, think they haven't worked that out.
Don't tell me they deserve a fair go, they already have all the advantages.

One gamer, pull your head in regarding me wanting VIC clubs to perish. Absolute hogwash.
Does your employer make the day that you travel to and from WA your day-off. Do you get a day-off in leiu ?
Is it the players fault that they there are apart of and have contributed to build a successful side ?

Have wondered whether it was worth the AFL hiring a special purpose jet with suitable, recovery, leg room, to cater for all teams on the long haul games. Teams wouldn't then be constrained by airline schedules.
Have only flown with AFL teams a couple of times and the players were in cattleclass, given they are above average for size it seemed a bit stupid to me.
