What are the exact ruck rules?

I think only the ruckmen are allowed in the circle so they'd have to lift from outside which wouldn't work. Also, if the quality of the centre bounces, there is no way lifters could change their direction quick enough to be effective.

Both at the centre bounce, and around the ground, I'm sure the situation is different, but can a team lift up a player to contest the ruck like the Rugby players do in Line-outs?

Would it be useful?

What about the goal line? Could you put a player on your shoulders and stand at the goal line to try and touch the shot at goal. Hey maybe even get some circus acrobats together and get three of them up there.

This was outlawed last century when Fitzroy tried it.

Centre square ruck rules

11.3.5 Contesting the Centre Bounce
(a) The centre bounce or throw up shall be contested by one
nominated Player from each Team. Such Player shall be
nominated to the field Umpire prior to the bounce or throw of
the football. The Player contesting the centre bounce shall be
positioned in his or her Team’s defensive half of the Playing
Surface and with both feet within the 10-metre circle. The
Player may only enter the Team’s attacking half after the football
touches the ground in the act of bouncing or leaves the field
Umpire’s hand, in the act of being thrown up. The Player shall
not be permitted to block an opponent’s approach to the contest.
The Players must have both feet inside the 10-metre circle at
all times until they contest the bounce or until the Umpire calls
play on due to an “offline bounce”. No other Player may enter
the 10-metre circle until the football touches the ground in the
act of bouncing or is thrown up by the field Umpire.
(b) Where a Player contravenes Law 11.3.5 (a), the field Umpire
shall award a Free Kick to the Player on the opposing Team
who is nearest to the Centre Circle.
(c) Unless otherwise determined by the Controlling Body, where
the field Umpire bounces the football off line, the field Umpire
shall immediately call “Play On” and the football may be
contested by any Player.

Given that only the Ruckman are allowed into the square and their feet must be inside the square then "Lifting" is against the rules. After a quick look I couldn't find the rule about boundary throw-ins.

I was talking to a friend about it the other day!! If the man on sholders is outlawed what about the "Rugby lift" on the goal line??

I'd like to see a human pyramid rolled out every now and then. I'd suggest your standard 3 at the base, 2 one the next level and then have a smaller, lighter player quickly clamber up and propel themselves off the top to take a screamer we haven't seen the likes of. I would be surprised if Petts wouldn't be the first to put his hand up for this role. The prior kick would need to be a set shot from within kicking distance (to allow the necessary 6 players to take part with creating too much of a disadvantage if the pyramid was to disengage), but at a tough angle hence the necessity of the pyramid to make sure of the 6 points. Just lay it up short and at the player at the top of the pyramid. Could also be used in defence.

I'd also be interested in the rules regarding climbing the goalposts. 2 players 5 metres up each post would reduce the target area somewhat and also allow said players to "drop in" on the footy when it looks like passing between the posts under the 5 metre height.

There's probably a technicality ruling the above out though ;)
