What can we read into today's loss?

That the game has passed Bowden by.

Looked slow and cumbersome and although he kicked a couple, he didn't do anthing that a young up-and-comer with 10 years in front of him, wouldn't have done. It's unfortunate but I feel the end is nigh.

Reasonable point Freeze.
Had minimal impact today but he was not our worst up forward and had some nice touches.

Tough side to come back against after a 4 week layoff.
Next week will give us a clearer indication about JBs future.

That Jake King is not up to it and should make way. Cory Jones, milne and now Gamble and Chapman (6 goals between them) is proof, if any is needed, that the all opposition sides know that King is a liabilility to be exploited. geelong's pressure on us when we had the ball from half way through the second quarter and all of the third brutally exposed our lack of skills under pressure. The goals we gave away as a result killed us. we are not the first side to be exposed by geelong in this way and we won't be the last. couldn't get the ball out of the centre and our hard ball gets dried up.Cotchin very promising.

I certainly have a grip, and next week will not reveal anything, as Essendon are sh!t.

Agree wholehartedly with your assessment of Essendon. Essendon will be a far better benchmark of whether the space between the ears of our players has changed or not, than using a game in the wet against last year's Premiers. We should win next weeks game and win it well. Essendon are clearly bottom 4 (especially with all of their injuries) and the way how we have played (for the most part) over the last 4 weeks suggests we could be a top 8 team if we keep playing with the level of intensity that has been seen over the past 4/5 weeks (third quarter yesterday excluded).

Our overall stats compared favourably yesterday with Geelong (CP, tackles, disposal efficiency, etc), with the exception of I50's and midfield possessions. We were beaten in the contests that matter and in the parts of the ground that matter and that is due to the bigger bodies and experience of Geelong.

We should be expecting a good 4 quarter win next week and if we don't get it then applications to join the darkside will increase dramatically.

His defensive performances is becoming a big concern and could have single handedly cost us the game against St Kilda. We also need to weigh up the rebound he gives us. Having both him and McMahon in the team gives us great run off the backline, however we need both of them to be able to shut up shop on their forwards when the pressure starts to mount.

Having just said this about Jake - he had the most CP's yesterday (9% of team's total) and disposal effiency was 85% - if we bring someone in to replace him, they need to be very good.

Yep, would have to agree. Hopefully he'll mature and stop trying to crash through every tackle. Might even become a tad more accountable too. But, that said, shouldn't matter if the defense was structured better. Get another guy in who'll stick to his man and King can be the guy clearing off the half back line. I find Wallace's 'quarterback' concept quite appealing, at least in theory, but McMahon, sadly, is not the player to implement it. Unfortunately I can't really think of any other gun kicks in our side. Could someone like Deledio play off half back? Then move King into the middle perhaps? Ideas? ...

That when you know in advance that we'll be playing in a blizzard you don't bring a marking tall (Polak) over a skilled and "on form" small (Tivva). Simple really Wallet you Puke! The 'Burgers had it right. Keep the score board ticking over.

Bloody hell get of Jakeys back.
The amount of times he was our only defender going up to make a double fisted spoil was incredible.
He's a pygmy but constantly put his arse on the line because he was the only one who got back to the incoming.
His job as the small defender is also to run and carry out of the backline and link through mid and deliver forward. It's a bit *smile* hard to do when you are the only one running and your teammates are mostly just standing around letting the opposition zone off.
Chappy is a gem mongrel small forward, with the amount of ball coming in to our backline Chappy and shitballs like Milne are always going to get a heap of goal opportunities.

and here i was thinking the cats were undefeated.....geez take it easy!! Its not the end of the world and the win count for me is really not that big of a deal - development is the key. Keep playing the young guys and introduce players like Cotchin into the team..I also think its time Wallace sticks to his structure and gets Schulz back in at CHB, Hughes at CHF, debut Collins and play Connors and Polo.

Players like hyde, bowden, johnson, tuck etc really shouldnt be in our thinking anymore - they arent taking us forward.

Agree on Schulz and Connors....maybe Collins and Polo but I haven't seen much from Cleever. He wasn't overly effective in a winning side yesterday. Terrible conditions I know.

Teams have worked him out, he provides run off half back and is not strong overhead, now his opponent takes him deep in the forward line to expose him overhead and stop him running through the centre.

At least he tries to compete because we know his opponent is. Try working out who MacMahon is playing on during the game.

Next week will tell far more on how we are travelling, a loss or even a scrubby win against a poor under strength will say that we haven't progressed. A 5+ goal win will point to us heading to a better direction.

Well said. Next week should be a comfortable win if we have progressed. If we lose (and Kinghter will be fired up against his old team) then some of the other T treads going on this forum will get a lot more sympathy.

Win or loss, we are improving. We're matching it with the best sides in the comp with a really young team. Slowly we'll see Hyde, Tuck, Bowden and co out of the team.

Im just looking forward to next year.......I'd be disappointed if we didnt take another step.

We are still in the mix to make the 8 but have plenty of work to do. We have to win 3 out of our next 4 games no excuses.

Still do and always hoped this would be a developing year. Forget about the 8 this year. Cats are great side. One quarter cost us and with every clanger we committed we paid dearly. Cut the mistakes out and that is at least 5 goals off the opposition's score. We must be patient. Hopefully another 6-8 wins in us this year.

I reckon we could keep this thread going for most of the season, and keep asking what can we read into today's loss?

You mean the game where he broke his wrist during the second quarter.

King will do me right now - he and Reiwoldt inject a spirit that our Capt and others couldn't muster. Jake has some flaws, and his accountability is more symptomatic of teamates up the ground letting him down and being caught out on the rebound.

Foley, King and an improving Lids are key reasons we are competitive right now. Matty White and Moore are tracking well on the improvement scale as well!

To answer the topic question is easy..

We are *smile*ing sh!t..

And actually haven't improved one iota!!

We actually have gone backwards at a million miles an hour..

Jordan "I couldn't hit the side of a *smile*ing barn" McMahon will fit in well at Richmond..

Tambling missing goal from 20 metres. I just can't believe it!

Dumb footballers make dumb decisions!

And we've got plenty of them. Hyde on Ablett..Give me a spell! He doesn't deserve to be on the same football ground as Ablett!

I fear for Cotchin. What an unlucky guy to be drafted by such an under-achieving club!

We have been the laughing stock of ths competition on and off the ground for 26 years and nothing has changed!

I'll get howled down here but I don't care.

We need to make better decisions. I can't believe how many poor decisions we make during the course of a game. It's like we are playing against 26 players..except 6-8 of them are on our side who continually kick the ball to the opposition. We are our own worst enemy and you can win all the contested possessions you want but it's no good if you turn the ball straight back over again!

*smile* this side will be the death of me!

who died?
