PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Guys & Gals of PRE. :hihi

The season is fast finishing and come pre season we will obviously see changes and experimentations introduced by the laws commission.

We have seen the game tinkered alot from when we first started watching and going to this great game. Some changes terrible for the game and others worthwhile.

Now, what would you as a supporter like to see, if any, introduced for next year ?

1. Obviously it appears that the priority may be scrapped for the next few years but instead of no-one receiving this prized pick the 2 new sides will be the beneficiaries of this , on top of what they will already get. No one should get it period.......

2. Would you trial a rule in the pre season "about kicking backwards " ?. Its a ugly spectacle and slows the game too much. I think it could help our game as we seem to be the masters at this ;D and is so frustrating watching this.

3. I think with the 2 new sides coming into the competition could make it ideal to shorten the season by playing only 17 2010 and 18 2011. This would prolong players careers as less stress on their bodies, would elimate what we saw with St Kilda last week ( it is their right to rest players). You could still have a pre season comp to satisfy sponsors but start the season 3-4 later. Give the players that time after playing their last pre season game to get them right for the start of the season proper. I know many have suggested this but i guess we know Demetriou will never approve this.

Who is in charge of the game (its interests ) ? Is it Demetriou or the AFL Commission. If its the latter couldnt they overule him if its what the clubs and supporters wanted ?

I know maybe clubs and the AFL wouldnt approve something like this as the resulting loss of revenue (especially for clubs at the lower scale who may struggle) but the AFL is making plenty of money from attendances and from the t./v rights. I know by the reduction of the games played in a season could hurt some clubs but with the introduction of the 2 new clubs and the t.v rights coming up , what if a 3 way joint football rights coverage by Channel 7, 9 and 10 with Channel 2 for the VFL games that could increase the pie for the clubs and compensate the reduction of the 3-4 games.

It would eliminate the abnormality and unevenness of the fixture. You play each team once and you (within the 2 year timeframe ) if you have played one side at home one year the next year you would play them away.

4. Rewarding the person trying to make the play. The one who goes in to get the ball. I just feel alot of the times he is being punished with this holding the ball rule. You have to give the player some time to dispose of the ball. There is so much inconsistency out there. You want to reward the ball player but also the tackler i know. !

Anyway just some of my thoughts. What do others think ? The game is fine as it is. No more tinkering with it ?

Waiting.
