What did we do to Paul Roos?

How long has it been since we have won a game with something riding on it more than getting to sing the team song afterwards.

It has been so long that I am concerned that we have so many players in our side who have never played in a side that has done that.

He hit the nail on the head with his comments on OTC until he decided to exaggerate for humour by saying we were thinking of next season 30 years ago. Total rubbish. Back in the nineties senior players were not thinking any further than that nights *smile* on.

When people say "What have we done to these guys", the answer is very little. Even old blokes like Sellars McClure are too young to remember the days that Richmond incurred scarring on the opposition.

There is no doubt that half a dozen people can look at the same glass of water & see six different levels. I can get that. However Roos has been particularly patronising about us - certainly of late. I really didn't pay attention to it at all until we beat Sydney. Fortunately I recorded the show on Fox as well as the last 2 weeks & replayed his comments more than once. The fact remains that we beat Sydney & beat them convincingly with the scoreboard evidencing a very good win by over 7 goals. As I recall - while our season may have been done - Sydney had a lot riding on the game & plenty of incentive to win. They were well beaten. That alone merited some comment from Roos other than the fact they Sydney had injury problems & Healy was worse. If it's to be the Melbourne & Sydney show - well fair enough.

Melbourne actually came out wanting to win against us - no tanking this time around - they tried to ruffle us up as well & stiff.....it didn't work - we still won. with the scoreboard flattering the D's. I went to watch the earlier game in the year when they beat us by over 5 goals & while disappointed at the time - our shortcomings were glaringly obvious. Jamar killed us & gave them first use. This time around they didn't dominate from the centre & as against Sydney we were able to lock the ball in to the forward line for extended periods - something we have never done under previous coaches/game plans.

We then come from behind to beat Adelaide - a team that won 13 of our last 15 contests. Bickley keen to impress. They, on their home ground & probably playing their best footy for the season. That was a bloody good win - don't care what stage of the seaon. They were so disappointed with the loss they have now dobbed Jake King in. Which is spiteful & sour grapes & weak as p-ss.

All of us know how long we have been in the wilderness....but we have a young side - a coach that is going well - players that are showing proper signs of development in Vickery & Rance. Our recruiting is becoming more professional. We have reduced debt - have state of the art facilities.

I don't want Roos kissing up to us either - but some BALANCE would be appropriate & more professional.

Was watching the Swans Brisbane game & Roos made an interesting point. Basically draft for talent, trade for positional needs.

May seem obvious but he said at Sydney they always took the best available young talent regardless of their draft pick no. and their playing position(ie defender, mid, forward etc.) and traded seasoned footballers for obvious positional needs.
Whatever you think of Roosy's views on Richmond it's hard to argue that they haven't utilised the draft as well as anyone over the past few years.
Just an interesting tidbit I thought.

Blair Hartley said the exact same thing in a chat on the RFC site earlier this year.

There's a difference between saying it and meaning it.

And it's no good saying you are taking the best available when you consistently get it wrong who the best player available is

Well even though a lot of people bitched and moaned a few weeks back, what he said about us being unaccountable we saw again today. Pretty poor I thought

Yep there's some who just don't man up.
One got subbed out today. The coach has seen enough.

I had my eyes on Grigg a few times and he gets caught between contests a lot as well. Was pretty disappointed in his accountability for a lot of the day.

Watched OTC last night . The only thing they had on in regard to richmond was highlighting 3 undisciplined frees . Two of them were by Jack Riewoldt and the 3rd was the coat hanger by jackson on Swallow in the last quarter . They then showed jackson missing the goal from 35 in the last as well . The point was fair enough . They were undisciplined and if Jackson has the chance to redeem himself then he has to take it .Not good enough .

Roos was then asked the question who is better off now , North or Richmond . His answer surprised me a bit because he said "on talent Richmond but I like the way North plays especially when Richmond does stuff like that ".

Was fair enough I think .

Yeah - I've felt Roos' criticism of Richmond for most of the second half of the season has been bordering on disrespectful. But he was right on the money last night. Riewoldt and Jackson (who I've about given up on) play as though their own emotion is more important than the team disciplines. They'll need to address that as a team to keep moving forward. It can be done though.

It was nice to get a constructive comment made about the Tiges on OTC - after all there's only about 5 mins available once you've spent 55mins blowing smoke up Adam Goodes', Nic Nat's and Ross Lyon's ......

Ross Lyon's ......
you mean "Rossie " ;D

I notice Roos also said he thinks Goodes may win the Brownlow and that his last 6 weeks were elite . He has forgotten that Rance took him to the cleaners 3 weeks ago .

He has wiped the "bye" against Richmond from the records Sin....never happened.

In so many ways we are beneath his radar. Thats a good example - they were talking about Judd....Roos changes the topic to "Goodesy"...&....."his last few weeks have just been outstanding".... There was a week in the middle when he got pantsed by Rance....but his ability to put that out of his mind remains strong. Also the Swans form over the "last 5-6 weeks" was wonderful according to Roosy...oh thats right - there was a flogging in the middle of that..

The commentary on our game (North /Richmond) was pretty brief & pretty much limited to our mistakes/undisciplined play & how slow Matty white has become (apparently - yes, we all saw Harvey run away from him late in the game). Did North play well ? Dunno....they didn't justify much of a comment from Roos & Healy. Personally I thought some of their foot skills were tremendous on the weekend.

While we were winning games - we weren't worth a positive comment. The loss to North was disappointing & shows that both sides finishd where they should for the year.

Oh, by the way....Melbourne got rolled by Port..... I think that match got a sentence or 2...........

Give me Brad Scott on the show on Foxtel tonite any time over Healy & Roos . Think I've watched the last "On the couch"...nothing to see here...lets move on....
