What did we learn against the Demons?

Not to let Brent Hartigan near the salad rolls.

That footage of him and Newman on crutches disccussing there stolen bounty was my biggest laugh out loud moment I have seen at a AFL game this year.

Harts just looks like one of the cheeky buggers that every club needs. Really hope this kid makes it.

Its alrigh,I just come back from giving neale daniher the biggest smack in the chops and the biggest spray since laffs paid out on kellaway! :hihi

I learnt from the Melbourne game that:

1) We still have a ways to go as far as execution and decision making is concerned;
2) “Tempo” football is very boring and;
3) Mid-strength beer is also very boring.

What we learnt is what we should have already known.

Melbourne are a good side who's younger guys are a year to 2 years ahead of our young guys.  Rmember most of ours are in their first or second years of AFL football with many of them being in their first year of regular senior selection.

We know these kids are the future and will continue to develop.

Despite looking ominous at stages Melbourne could not bury us like sides have in the past.

Yes we were a little lucky with the margin, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves.

I think we will take a lot out of this game as they really are the form side of the competition at the moment.

:clap well said. I will add, we gained alot of experience from this game (both players and coaching staff) and expect to do much better in next meet. Thursfield, Raines, other youngsters need the presence of *smile*, Joel and Kellaway to further their strength and knowledge.

Most of the views on this thread are about what areas we fell down on:  One thought Ive not seen anyone make (and would like to know) is to what degree was it actually Melbourne very deliberately picking apart our game plan?   We may have 3 styles of play; but I got the big impresssion they had worked out that you can make Jay Bowden pay for his loose checking; you can set up your backline to force the Tigers to be over Richo concious, and I guess a few other tricks in the midfield  -  ie that they had 'worked us out'.

I was prompted to this thought by an article in the Age or Sun saying that  Melbourne started Collingwoods recent slide because they exposed the Woods game plan, showing other teams how to beat them.   Does anyone think that this might be the case for us too? Have we been worked out?

What you say does make sense. we definitely got stopped at half back and the turnovers mostly occurred in that region. another point, our centre breaks were down compared to them. I must admit, some free kicks were soft, however, they applied pressure in the centre.

Stage fright got the better of us.
I thought Sugar did a good job on Johnstone, he was hardly spotted.
Forward setup didn't work. Richo needs to make more room for
*smile* and Krak needs to crumb to Sarge, not Richo.
Richo's touch is better than ever. Picking up the ball well.
To lose by only 18 points to the hottest side is OK.
Especially when we played so badly.
