Just finished watching a replay on Fox of the round 3, 2002 game against Melbourne, where Ezra Poyas kicked the winning goal for us.

I was living interstate in that year, AFL was a dirty word, almost, so news was virtually non existent.

Poyas had a pretty good game, and I now wonder what his fate was? Can some kind person please enlighten me.

In that game, Campbo had 37 possessions. We will miss his experience this coming year. What a great Richmond man he has been.

Got rookie listed with Melbourne but was cut after one year.

Has been playing with Sandringham since. Played in the premiership this year I think, but spent part of year playing seconds.

Thanx Dragga. Any idea why we let him go??

Unfortunately, Ezra showed a lot of potential in the U18's & reserves, but just couldn't make the step to senior AFL footy. I think he was drafted based on his performance in the U18's GF.

Yes, Ezra was a very good junior footballer. He played at CHF in the Central Dragons side of about 1999. In that same side where Dylan Smith, Mark Ainley, David Spriggs, Steve Greene, Jeremy Dukes, Jason Blake, Nick Stone & Nick Ries, and a few others.

Ezra did have a very good season in the 1999 TAC, and played well in all the finals. He showed genuine pace and could get the ball. In his second year at Coburg he won the Liston, and played in finals under Richardson's coaching.

So why wasn't he an AFL footballer. Ezra was the lesson for me that 185-188cm CHFs had died out at AFL level. (I suppose I should have learnt that from Bomber James.) He was fast enough for a CHF, but not fast enough for a good flanker, and he had little ability in defence.

His major fault was that he couldn't run in a straight line with the ball, he often ran around in circles, often finding himself under pressure when kicking, and often on thec boundary, probably because of his lack of height and strength.

Ezra was my lesson that key forwards have to be at least 192cm or preferably over.

Thanks a bunch he who walks. That clears that up for me. He seemed to play OK in the game I mentioned having watched on Fox.

You summed that up very well, Mr Walker.

I've seen him play some reasonable games in the VFl but is still cursed by the running-in-circles syndrome.

Dud? no, it's not a term I use for players - just not up to AFL level.

Personally, I would have been ecstatic if I could have donned the Yellow & Black just once but, alas, it was not to be. We must have some very talented footballers posting on PRE if they can label players as duds! :-\

Ezra was not one of my fav Tiger players. Anyone could see he wasn't up to it. He ran around like a headless chook. After being de-listed was rookie listed by Melbourne and went to Sandringham where he won the J J Liston trophy. He's still there but spent most of the year in the Magoos before coming back to play in there winning GF team.

He just didn't know where to position himself to get the footy. Made some strange choices out on the park
