What happens next with Gaspar?

I would wait and see what sort of attitude and presence he portrays around the club over the pre season before offering him any 1 year contract.

My view is that Gas may be on his way out. 31, injured, just out of expensive contract and a traditional full back in a game where te full back role is changing to a more offensive one.

Depends obviously on what Darren's intentions are and whether he is settled in Melbourne or keen tomove to Perth, but he actually may be of some trade value but for something similar.

WA may be the go in a home coming - Depending on how Fremantle go this year and their window of opportunity - Gaspar for 1 or 2 years may just give them that extra stopper on the big guys to complement their run out of defence . Gaspar for Polak maybe.

Brisbane - young list - a Graham role perhaps . If Mal Michaels go - no real experience down back with Leppitch gone and Bradshaw up forward - Gas for Michaels or as part of a get Aker deal. Same deal with carlton but they have nothinmg to offer. Sheeds would probably lap him up. Gas for solomon?

Hawks - Gas for Spida. Could make sense (for the Hawks/not us)- would ease the pressure on Zac anyway.

Back to Sydney again - could release Barry as a more offensive backman - maybe for Jarred Moore.

Or he may saddle up again until Will and Moore and JON recover and mature ( to cover FB and CHB (together with whatever else we may get.

Must say GAS for Polak might make sense. If it happened would be interesting to see a GAS/Richo duel.

Whatever teh outcome Gas has been a great servant of the RFC, 200 games, JD medallist dual all Australian - would be nice if he achieved some team success in his twilight years - preferably with the tiges.

Agree with above, despite the reservations I have about his future. He should retire and I think he will.

It wasn't his fault our club paid so much for so long for an awful kicking backman. Sure he asked for it (the money - wouldn't you) but we were silly enough to pay it. To his great credit he accepted less money late in the contract. Always thought the five year deal and so much money for a one dimensional full back when we were bleeding in the midfield was a recipe for disaster. Guess Miller was right when he said we needed a top class backman - cos he didn't spend the money on the midfield so it had to go down back to our top-class backman a lot ;)

Base payments with incentives per appearances.

Somehow I don't think he'll stay for such a dramatic haircut and won't get anything for trade, lets be realistic.

Either way we're going to be hampered by a lack of Kp defenders in the next 2-3 seasons.

Agree,A big concern is the lack of kp defenders more than any other position.

That was a great post lamby.

The two players who are really going to have to step up next year are Kelvin Moore and Luke McGuane (interestingly neither of whom are currently contracted).

I haven't really seen enough of these guys play to pass comment on their abilities but the club is in dire straights if these two youngsters fall short of the mark and can't cut it as a replacement for an injured/aging former AA fullback.

Perhaps Wallace has decided these two don't have a future but in that case I really do worry who we have coming through? :(

Interesting times ahead but whether he stays or goes unfortunately Gas isn't going to rectify our current crisis regarding DKPP's all that much.
