Is the improtance of having dangerous decoy options in the forward line

IMHO Richo owes alot of his 9 goals to Jay Shultz. The fact that Solomon had to pay Jay respect meant that he couldnt so easily double team richo.

This is the key to match winning forward line. Having alot of dangerous forwards

:clap :clap
I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this. Jay's work in leading away to make space, but also his bone-crushing efforts in busting a pack to bring the ball to ground in our forward line is great to see. He might not be kicking bags of goals (yet), but he is doing his fair share of hard work to bring others into the contest. Also, his chasing & tackling are first rate. Keep it up Jay

Agree, mentioned this in the Richo thread. Saw him pull out of a contest a couple of times and saw Richo congratulating him for his assistance afterwards.

It has pretty much been said already, just not on a devoted thread. ToO mentioned it somewhere as well. I took notice because he'd posted concerns previously that Jay and Richo mightn't work well together and I was really happy that doesn't seem to be the case.

You did indeed Andy.
Makes all the difference in the world to Richo's performance not to be double and triple teamed. Jay is proving a great foil.
Jay's workrate has been exceptional down forward and you are right zips he is busting packs open.
Terrific to see they are finally starting to work well together.

(haha) just beat me rosy.

The Tigers have needed this for ages. I also think Richo is very selfless in that he will lead defenders away to give one of his forward playing team mates a chance too. Well done to Jay for sacrificing his own game, though.  :clap

I thought what helped richo the most was the fact plough dropped 2 extra players in defence. Our forward line was totally open and there was a heap of space for richo to lead into. No doubt jay was a factor also. Make no mistake, Sarge will one day tear an opposition apart. He has the goods.

Was it the three quarter when Richo marked and Jay and his make believe marking attempt. when Richo kicked his goal, he went to Jay and congratulated him for his efforts and protection. Spent a good minute talking to him.

the best thing about jay is that he's kicked goals since he's been back in the team. been very impressed with him lately

Yes.

Schulz is more than a decoy. He is often flying for exactly the same mark as Richo and provides assistance by blocking defenders.

The reason why Richo played so well on Saturday night can be explained by Wallace's defensive tactics. Wallace wants a loose man in defence to free up space for Richo to run into. Sheedy manned up to deny and another loose man was dispatched. Sheedy also manned him up and eventually the game was played with Essendon having an 8 man forward line and Richmond having a 4 man forward line. Even the full back of the Century would have struggled to stop him under these circumstances.

The only ways they could score goals was from centre square clearances or long bombs. Our inability to win the clearances was the only reason we didn't win by 10 goals or more.

I thought Sheedy was pretty tactically inept on Saturday night. Is he past it, or was he trying to lose, despite his team's best endeavours?

Im a big fan of Jay's. He works hard around the ground with 2nd efforts etc He marks really well and boy can he kick straight. Next year if all goes well I expect him to kick 40+ goals. Gonna be a great player for us.

What I've liked most about Jay is his defensive pressure in the forward line and up onto the wing. I've seen him create several opportunities because of his pressure which have been turned into goals.

People talk about Richo's work rate and how great he is at presenting time after time, but I don't think he's quite as aggressive as Jay at applying defensive pressure. They make quite a good tandem, and with Browny, Pettifer and Hughes to slow in around them in the near future, I think our forward line will be reasonably dangerous.

Schuuuuuultzz is a beauty...... Its been ages since we've had a forward that can kick accurate.
I feel really confident when he's going for goals, I havent felt like that since the Hoggy days and Roachy days before that.
