PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Well, last night really summed it up for me, i went to the game with high expectations, we were fielding a very strong side coming off a horrible year and expected the tigers to explode onto the paddock and belt an undermanned StKilda outfit minus
1. Riewoldt
2. Hayes
3. Ball
4. Maguire
5. Goddard
and others.....

What i saw were a team of individuals running around and having a go, but no one seemed to know what the others were doing, no one showing leadership and no one was prepared to help a team mate out.

We ran hard, we even tackled, we ran in groups.... but we still had no system and seemed to lack a game plan going forward
In contrast the saints pressured us, used the corridor, played direct and found loose unnacouted men all over the ground

Our fwd line was a disgrace, our backline was pretty good and our midfield was ok

Our fwds lead wide, all the time, our mids seemed to be confused on whether to honour the lead wide (against team rules) or kick to the right spot but there was no one there...

Listening to Grant Thomas last night (yes it was difficult) but he made 1 very smart observation:
Richmond have Richo, Brown, Pettifer, Polak, & Deledio in the fwd line. All of these players are ball players (ie) they want and demand the ball, but none of them will lead away to create space for the other - in fact they do not work as a team

I have always been a wallace fan, last night he lost me, a new season new players but same crap, not once did we go long and direct, i watched countless times as we ran wide around the boundary and our fwds led wide to meet them and we tried to spear a pass onto a leading fwds chest at full pace - and watched it fly over their heads..... dumb footy

In contrast the saints would centre the ball to space BEHIND the leading fwd for a second fwd who ran into the space, OR they would gently pop the ball up in front of the leading player and he would run or dive into it...

Where did TW try and change the game plan..... Polak couldnt get a kick but why not send him to deep fwd and kick long to the square
Why not isolate Richo, or Deledio inside 50 to create space.... do something not just same old same old

The positives:
Kel Moore - great game you won me
Morton, Casserley & King all did well
Richo tried hard and as usual was everywhere - except where we need him - the score sheet he needs to stop trying to cover everyone all around the ground and just lead straight and direct
Simmons - solid game game
Pattison good in his ruck stints
Bowden serviceable battled hard

The negatives:
Terrys coaching - very poor and lacks a solid game plan
JON - dud of the highest order - rabbit under a spotlight
Mcmahon - seemed to struggle to understand what the rest of the team were trying to do, not his fault so did i, disposal poor
Tivendale - when he has time on his left side he can be damaging, but whe he doesnt he is a liability (gave us 2 goals & cost us 2 goals)
Polak - needs the ball given to him or else he cant get it
Riewoldt - no idea whats going on
Brown - lazy, selfish player
Pettifer - same as brown

Message to Terry:
if you dish this crap up again you will not see past round 5
Find someone who can straighten us up in attack and be more direct
Bite the bullit and find a fwd line that works together and helpd each other out (if that means that brown, richo and pettifer play up the ground then do it)

and finally when it comes draft time at the end of the year, forget about mids, forget about backs but find the best 2 KP fwds in the country, guys that are big, strong, smart and straighten us up
