What on earth did people expect?

Saints average winning margin this year is 44 points, given where we are at 56 would be expected.

Had a pretty good conversation with the St Kilda supporters during the Game. They said it was like watching Stkilda for a season and a half when Lyon first arrived, and he actually had a pretty good list to work with. It took them that long to do the basic defensive pressures right and now they are looking pretty good. Their view (now) was that St Kilda could never win a flag playing the attacking role (under Grant) that the old Geelong of the 80's/90's tried but also failed. They all hated the early years of Lyon but can now see the light (even if the football is now less glamerous) if that makes sense.

What surprised me was that they were actually quite impressed with some of the younger players on our list and thought we did better than some of the other teams they have watched this year. They were also very impressed with the pace of the side.

Their only comment was why we couldn't fix our forward structure after having the long break to think about it. For two quarters, to get the ball at the defense 50m ark and then have no one two kicks ahead was quite staggering.

I'd like to think we were comparable...but St Kilda have had a lot of gun players for a long time now....Del Santo, Reiwoldt, Kossie, Ball, hayes etc....We don't compare well against the st Kilda of Lyon's first year or so...I wish we did......maybe our mids are in the ball park, but our forward stocks are nothing like as good as theirs at that stage....we have no stand out tall forwards and nothing on the horizen....I hope I'm wrong but our talent deficit looks like its going to hurt us for a long time to come....
