What stops another team picking BenC before us?

i disagree as his behavior became more and more erratic he was more or less forced to admit his problems. nasty stuff that ice.

oh just on the thread name. due diligence been a popular saying lately, is what stops other clubs taking him before us.

But why did the issue fester for 10 years at WC?!

exceptional footballer.a few lesser types got the lemon and sarsp ones at the roos now. i think the eagles knew for yrs what cousins was into but he was winning footy games for them he was training well and until 3 or 4 yrs ago he basically kept out of trouble and if he did get into trouble it was kept in house.the other thing was he was not getting caught.
and let me say it was not just wce it was all clubs. sheesh we have one at our club who is on two strikes. it would be very naieve of anyone to think that ALL footy clubs are not a reflection of society.

Really??

It's the worst kept secret in footy, I thought everybody knew.

Drugs in footy are much more widespread than people think.

Hmm the names I heard didn't involve any Richmond players.

Plus, if you are right in assuming that drugs are widespread amongst players in footy, thats a pretty big indictment on drug testing. Yes I know Cousins slipped through the radar, but testing is far better and more extensive these days.

It was several years ago, not the more recent Channel 7 case. In any case best not to even hint, to my knowledge in court restriction is still in force.

As for the testing regime, it is better now, but still has a ways to go.

If the AFL decides in our favour on Polak, I'd love to see Ben repay some of our faith in him by announcing he will only join Richmond. Before we put our hands up for him, his career was gone. We did make it acceptable to take him. If someone else does, we will look foolish; with Polak on the rookie list, he should feel confident we will take him, and state that he is not interested in anyone else.

It might give him a bit of payback feeling, too - the other clubs rejected him; now he gets to reject them - before they've even had a chance to pick or not pick him! (He would look very mercenary, too, if he joined another club seemingly with enthusiasm, after the hard yards we've put in for him.)

Can he do that, i.e. state that he will only go to Richmond?

No not directly. But he could threaten to get on the juice again unless it was the Tigers. That would keep them at bay.

A quick caller to SEN ( 5.15pm)from Adelaide advised that Port had an extraordinary meeting tonight as well that came about after the announcement from RFC.

Port could let Josh Carr go for Cousins. (Not sure how true that was - but he was adamant because his meeting had to be cancelled for this meeting to happen). Gave the location too.

Maybe Port/Ess before he even gets to to RFC.

Interesting tomorrow
