Heres my shopping list.
I,d axe or trade a minimum of 8-9 players thus leaving room for a minimum of 6-7 kids in the draft , 1 traded player and 1 PSD pick.
Ideally a more mature ruck in PSD or trade (Maric, Wood, Charman etc)
In the draft
Kreuzer - Ruck forward provides depth in ruck stocks for the interim and for future.
3 KPP talls over 194 cm - 2 Key Backs say players the size of Gaertner for FB 195 cm, Casey Leigh FB/CHB or Bristow CHB also 195 cm for depth and also to cover for the departures of Gaspar, Moore, Hall, Kingsley, Knobel and Graham. This is where our list is out of balance and we must add more talls. Added to Polak and Thursty the club then has depth and versatility in key back posts which would best allow Thursfield to play 3rd tall which is his best role . A specialist FB type at 195 cm such as Gaertner is a must for mine.
1 developing KPP such as McKenna who can run all day, is athletic and can play forward or back ala Polak thus we increase future KP depth at both ends.
2-3 midfielders one of which will be taken early for quality , most likely will not get a Cotchin, Masten, Grimes, etc as they will go top 5 or 10 after Kreuzer/
Maybe someone such as a Normington, Grima, type will be good value at 18 if still available.
A Veszpremi type also would be handy as a 2nd smaller type and also wouldnt be against throwing a lifeline to a player such a Neville, mature body inside ball winner if he is available towards latter part of draft.
This is a draft where where i have heard most of the mids are dime a dozen, and as we desperately require KPP with ability and real size not 190cm utilities i believe this is the draft that will have a very big bearing on our future. If Wallace and Miller take more midgets then the club aint going anywhere for a few more years yet, as we will be left with a side akin to the one that was carried by Knights, Lambert Free, etc that had no size strength or quality in key posts. Thus bottom reaches of the ladder.
You cannot win premierships without a quality spine and specialist quality big KPP, its been proven through history.
2 - rucks - 1 mature via trade or psd - and Kreuzer.
2 Key Defenders >194 -195cm for CHB and FB allowing Polak to be a swingman and Thursfield to play 3rd tall. (Gaertner, Casey Leigh, Bristow, Collier etc)
1 Utiliy KPP type >195 cm such as a McKenna - Phantom is a very big wrap for this kid.
2 - hard skilled midfielders
1 - utility small defender / midfielder.
Thats my minimum shopping list.
4 rookies - 1 rookie ruck to replace Graham
- 1 rookie KPP
- 2 rookie mids this 1 + 1 + 2 = balance to rookie list so like for like replacements can be made if
injuries strike rather than replacing say Simmo with King. We can replce Simmo with rookie ruck if
desperate.
