PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I have been a supporter all my life.

I was born in the heartland of richmond, went to richmond primary school then moved to the eastern suburbs in the late 70"s and witnessed the 1980 grand final thrashing of collingwood. Two years later (hot favourites against the blues), Bourke played his card earlier in the semi with cloke we came out to play the man and fell behind in the first quarter than it was catch up football. After that grand final bourke lost some players in that there were personalities issues and other rumblings. Then the war started between us and collingwood and this started the problems with the tigers. Cloke, raines, wood and others left.

Fast forward to the present(last decade) we have had walls, geish, frawley and now wallace. Out of all of them Walls came with some vision on a game plan and what was required for success and training. The players couldnt handle his hard training methods hence he ended up getting the sack. Geish almsot took us to a finals and on that note was given an extension and then he was pushed.

Frawley was then appointed. No one wanted the job. We interviewed or wanted to interview Malthouse, thompson but neither even wanted to come to the tigers and flat refused and interview. Frawley who we know was an assistant under Shaw took them to i think a wooden spoon was appointed when no one else wanted to coach the club. With its history or sacking coaches and admin problems, money problems who could blame them ?

Frawley on the back of an ok list which had some courageous, tougher players , got us to a finalsd after years of being in the wilderness. We got smashed in two of the three games , but he made the error of toping up instead of looking at the list and where we had to recruit to build the club and take us for some sustained success. I think Miller may have been there in those final years. Who was responsible for the top up of players, who did he listen too ? , was he pressured into this for fear ? Anyway after the knighter senario things went horribly wrong , wooden spoon eventuated and hence his contract wasnt extended(sacked in other words).

Next came Wallace. Many called him the mesiah, the chosen one to lead us out of the wilderness, to the promised land of finals football and back to being a powerhouse again. Salesman at his best back then. He chose us over the hawks , said our list as better, that our list would play finals etc etc or words to that effect. I for one didnt fall for any of it. At the dogs he had a good list blended with skill, hardness, courage and toughness. He almost coached the doggies to a grand final which i believe they could have pinched one.

The circumstances he left the dogs and the way he left the list in left in no doubt he wasnt the man for the tigers.

Was given an unprecidented 5 year contract to bring success.

He had time in away in the media, he would have looked at our list, who he could believe could take us somewhere and which players couldnt cut it.(harsh word i know).

We took the wooden spoon in frawley's last year and took deleido who was the standout junior .Errors were made with other draft choices which we all know of and hate harping on. Was he overruled, did he have any vision of what sort of players he wanted and the game style he wanted to implement at the club? Or did he truly believe a side full of flankers, outside types could do it.?

He brought his yes men in royal as skills coach and our skills have deteriorated.

After a few years the blame game started . He blamed frawley for the way he left the list, yet we are all not stupid as he has had four drafts to build the club up yet he and miller trade away our picks and basically top up.

Did he lose the players when he sacked *smile*?

Why doesnt any past player who has played under danny or wallce stay involved with the club in some capacity ?

The players run the club ? Senior group ? Did they get their noses out of joint with the 2011 comment ?

Weeks ago he mentions he will not coach again after he finishes with the tigers. That when he leaves he hopes the next coach can bring success ?

Wallace will not leave this job. He is paid well $500k a year for taking us backwards at a rate of knots. Worse than the frawley reign.

The players are lazy and do not work hard enough for each other .

His realization that tackling is part of the modern game too !

Game plan , what is it ?

Is it fitness ? Apparently as in every year (we hear they are flying -pre season) more was placed on fitness then in past years. It shows ???

Is it a mental thing ? Well they have a psychologist down there, well it aint working .

Is it the coach? Can he coach >? Is his heart in the job himself ?

Is it the culture of the place ? Have we been so unsuccessful that it is ingrained ? If this is the case i worry for our young players coming through who will be addicted to this lack of failure that exists within the club.

Off the field we have made massive in roads. On the field we are a basket case of continued failure.

We have to start again from scratch. Build from the front. If we lose against the dees and there is no guarantee that we will beat them considering how they have been playing and how we have the past two weeks. Have the wheels fallen off. Has morale now hit rock bottom again ?

The problems of this club and not current ones. They are problems stemming back from the early 80's in my opinion.

They are cultural, and most of the senior players at the club lack leadership, courage and hardness not only to play but at all other levels . Their exists no pride in performance and no pride in the jumper. At times it appears that some play for themselves and show no direction to the young players.

I worry for the group of youngsters at this club, i worry for their futures and morale. Youngsters playing well at coburg not playing seniors and their places being taken by senior players who have shown time and time again that at senior level they are not up to it.

I would rather know if the next group of youngsters are up to it as the senior group we know are not !

So the problems of this club can be traced way back and will take more pain for us supporters to endure before it is fixed but it needs to start ASAP.

In the words of Wallace, " we will let or football do the talking this year"

Lets get united, behind the club, support it and hope that sooner rather than later the problems afflicting it will be fixed.

Whether wallace will be the one to do this and this current group of kids time will tell, because the senior players are not up to it. I will not name who but we know who the are. They will not bring us success.

Time to fix the errors of the past !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
