i am sad we lost to you guys but it was a good match thou i think the umps were abit terrible for both sides i saw hawk players get no frees from a high tackle as well as tiger players getting no frees from high tackles

Richmond 29.14 188 Hawthorn 21.23 149 Princes Park 1985

I think this is the last time. Unfortunately they kicked 180pts against us in the rematch later that year and won by 10 goals.

I think that was also the last win against them for about 10 years as well.

We have beaten Hawthorn twice with lower goals. The other time was during the easter period in 1995 at waverley (however the goals tally was below 15). Richo starred in this game and our points tally was huge. Watching the highlight package for 1995, Jewel made reference to this game " it was a turning point for the season".

Below 15?

it was something like 4 goals 16 I thought.

This was the day Richo stepped on the ball trying to soccer it through in the goal square. It pissed down all day long, the ground was a mudbath and it was bloody cold in the stands.

Ahh I miss Waverley ;-) lol

I knew it was low but not that low. Thanks for your input

I was spot on lol, if you remember the day .... Probably the worst weather we played in until the day of the storm against Freo at the G a few years ago ...

Don't ask me how I can remember such things, but I remember a Richmond v Hawthorn game in the 70s (at Waverley I think) when the final score (I am almost 100% sure) was Richmond 11.25(91) to Hawthorn 13.6(84). I guess it was memorable because we won by over a goal despite kicking two fewer goals.

Might also have been memorable because they were raging favorites and it was a big win for the Tiges. Might even have been in a Hawthorn premiership year.

Interesting that we've beaten Hawthorn with fewer goals three times in the modern era.

yep, just checked it. Rd 8, 1972, wedged between a Hawthorn premiership year and a Richmond one.
How do we remember things like that after 33 years?

Great get. They are frweaky numbers, 23 goals. And it makes perfect sense that someone with an interest in numbers shoud remember that set. For some reason, you seem like a candidate. ;D
