Where and when did the wheels fall of the Wallace era?

yeah it prob helped them finish bottom. it doesnt appear it helped them make a good early assessment on dawson tho. he was 70kgs.
who knows if they had of given him time to develop properly he could be a key back for them now and they wouldnt be forced to play ruckmen back there.
playing kids before they are ready is not fast tracking them. especially talls.

They process was correct. Whether they made the right call on Dawson is another issue, but they played him and made an early call. Dawson has a long way to go and good luck to him as he's playing good footy. Can he keep his spot when Hudgton and maybe McGuire return though?

When he had his photo in the paper with our 5 selections in the top 20 that didn't include one of Roughie or buddy - he was always doomed

true. the biggest sign of incompetency/selfish coaching was trading our pick 19 for mcmahon. any club with a decent list manager would never have allowed this to happen
Especially as we had 1st pick in the pre-season draft anyways :'(

Ahh yes the famous BBQ at uncle Clinton's place. The day the rebirth was to have taken place.

Must have been a mad rush for Clinton to remove his Essendon memorabilia from the house before the media arrived..

Agree.

Sanchez aside most of the damage was done by Beckwit and Mullet.

Wallace has been in charge for 5 years though. Surely that is long enough to have made an impact - unfortunately that impact is to add possibly another 2 spoons to our cabinet. Wallace took over when the Dogs and Hawks were in similar position. His tenure really has been an abject failure.

Maybe it's more accurate to say that Wallace never managed to get a single wheel that had fallen off, back on. He's still looking for the jack I guess.

we recruited graham to shield and lead our young key backs, at the time including thursfiled and mcguane. the hawks delisted graham and were forced to play zac dawson. i dont think drafting graham with our 8th pick in the ND- the other 7 were used on kids- was a mistake. nor was it shortsighted.
what a load of dribble that is. fair dinkum some people are gullible.
so graham was bought into mentor thursfield and mcguane. mcguane was drafted as a young kpf thursfield was rookie listed after the 04 draft in other words after graham was taken in the nd. just what kpds was he bought into mentor thursfiels a rookie who was unlikely to play a senior game. hall gaspar kellaway sheesh it was one of the most dumbest and shortsighted decisions ever made anywhere and should have had alarm bells going of for all and sundry.
the fact they took a 30 something kpd when we had so few young ones on the list is just mindboggling.

Nice one. :hihi Though methinks he's given up looking for the jack and he's waiting for a cab home now.

............................... Wallet was never going to accept a long losing streak that usually comes with playing a majority of developing kids.

............. and look where that got us all (including himself), in an even worse position !

Sounds like the blind commitment to following whatever seductive plan was put forward when he was hired was the best way to secure a losers mindset. We were stuck between the belief we had to show stability and the fallout if we didn't.

The wheels fell off because RFC management has not appeared to reign in a commitment to Wallace that should have been scrutinised better.

Agree. The Graham decision showed his intentions and his philosophy from the get go IMO. The subsequent recruiting of Kingsley, Bowden, McMahon, Hislop etc. etc. shows he hasn't really changed.

He had an aim of developing our own champions, yet wasted draft picks on recycled players. He blames a poor skill level yet he has had years to either improve skill levels, get rid of blokes who aren't up to it, or recruit guys who have goot good skills. And then, with a poorly skilled team, he implements a gameplan reliant on precision skills. He reckons we are locked and loaded yet continually uses inexperience as an excuse when we get beaten. He reckons our young blokes have developed over his tenure yet he struggles to name names when questioned by Mike. He says he won't trade first round draft picks while he is coach yet he downgrades a pick for Graham Polak and chases Brendon Fevola and to a lesser extent Chris Judd. He has told us time and time again after floggings that it won't happen again and supporters can at least expect a competitive performance each week, yet we continue to be subjected to the same crap.

I sometimes wonder whether he actually believes his own spin. I have had a gut full of him.

dawson was drafted in 2003. when he was drafted they had croad graham hay and jacobs. croad and jacobs were traded for the same yr dawson came to hawthorn. clearly he was a development type.
he played no games in 04 just 2 in 05 10 in 06, just 2 in 07, 0 games in 08 and was then delisted he was hardly thrown in the deep end. he managed just 14 games in 5 seasons he was hardly fast tracked 5 seasons was enough for the hawks you could argue maybe they went one yr too many with him. h e could not establish himself in the one real deficient area of the hawks list. i think he lasted 5 yrs with them because they were so deficient in kpds. they still are.
