Where are the crumbers?

krak was contracted, but so was rodan ;D

meyer, edwards and tambling are all kids who have been rotated through the forward pocket role but with time they will all eventually belong in the middle

crumbing is the least of our worries

krakouer is finished, slow forward pockets who cant play midfield are gone

Today's gone some way towards that finally being true.

thats what i thought round 5

Me too but it didn't happen. The MCG man weasled his way back into the side.
This time however Wallace has left him out in spite of a great game for Coburg and against a potential suitor.
That makes me truly believe his time is over.

The likes of Bling, Petts, Krak, etc....they ALL go up against Richo/Schulz, etc...like they are in school-yard footy....when they should be playing a disciplined team game, and stay down.
That is their role when in the forward-50 and high balls are coming in....not trying to take mark of the year, where inevidently, the ball drops to ground and the disciplined defender runs off with the loose ball to set up an attack....but they should be staying down and if they don't get to the fall of the ball, at least be ready to put pressure on the defender who does get to the ball first.
Such pressure (watch Varcoe of Geelong, who doesn't get many possessions, but has been kept in the team most of the season due to his high workrate at keeping the ball in the forward-50) is something we lack.....and this lack of pressure doesn't help our defence either.

Beautifully put Liverpool. :clap

Gee IrockZ....you were looking good there until that last line... ;)

Crumbing I think is one area we definitely need to address.
With a relatively tall forward structure with Richo, Schulz, Hughes, Simmo dropping down there...the ball too often gets rebounded out of the forward-50 again, due to the lack of small players staying at the big men's feet and putting pressure on rebounding defenders.
I know I already used Naish/Daffy in 1995...but it was a season where we were unpredictable, in that even when Richo did his knee halfway through that season, we still made it to a prelim final, because we had other options....and if you remember right, the 2nd half against the Bombers in that 2nd semi-final, Naish and Daffy were the instigators of the comeback with crumbing goals and forward-line pressure.

These days, if Richo, who is up against 2 or 3 defenders, does not take the mark....you can count 9 times out of 10 the ball being rebounded straight out of the forward-line again....either due to no 'natural' recognised crumber in the team (like a Milne/Matera type player) or that the so-called crumbers fly for the mark as well....or they are jogging around in the midfield somewhere.

Thanks Ms.Tantie.

Krakouer - Gone!
Tambling - Midfielder (I hope!) that would ideally go forward when not on the ball.
Edwards - second rover in time to Foley.
Meyer - Wing (should be given a go in this position at AFL level and see what happens)
Brown - More a mid sizes forward and occasional midfielder.

Agree that crumbers is an area (yet another one) that needs attention.

Last season, someone mentioned Cupido was still going around in the SANFL. Whether he's worth another try or not, I don't know, but that's the type of player that would be ok.

Crumbers only work if you move the ball into an open forward line quickly.

We don't move the ball that quickly.

Our crumbers don't get a chance.

im just saying crumbing is not important nowadays, your small forwards need to be targets also because there arent many contests nowadays and flooded backlines make it hard to keep getting the pill off the packs which is what your krakouer variety likes

pure forward pockets are finished, medhurst just got dropped because of this but the pies keep davis in because he can play midfield etc which is what a small forward HAS to be able to do

as i said, far bigger worries than crumbing
