where are we?

One could speculate that if terry and greg had done a better job in the first two seasons we could be looking at our window of opportunity next season.

But it wasn't to be so we are two years away from being serious challengers.

Keep drafting youth :clap :clap :clap

lets face it, spud didnt leave the team / list in a good shape .i have alwasy matined that bowden should of gone at least 2 years ago, petts same, the only reason krakouer(please note nothing personal against him) went last year was because of what took place, but he is another that should of gone in TW first years.
in the last few years some of our dud players have just been cloggin the list.
for richmond to go places in the next few years there has to be some hard decisions made regarding the list, and the players that we chase.IMO the following players need to be addressed (in no order)
JON- let go/trade
PETTS- as above
Bowden-trade, if no trade then keep him as an emeregency and play a younger player in his pos
Polak- would of settled in by now , rookie list
Polo-keep
King-Trade
McMuffin -should of never been picked up
Hughes-one more year then see ya later if he dosent come up
Sugar-retire
Cogs-this is the hardest, but i think the club has done well with out him this year so maybe time to part ways via a trade to one of the w.a clubs if it cant be done then keep as an emergency
Patto-IMO i belive he will come good , he works hard and never stops trying

we have a good bunch of kids that are starting to develop, i feel for tambling purely becuase of the pressure that we as supporters place on him, but the fact that media just can never let it go with this tambling/buddy thing.Bling will come good and he is starting to show it.Lids what can you say, Cotch i think we should thank the cardboard cheats for tanking last year this guy will be a super star, providing its kept under control not like over expousre ala buddymania,
so we not that far off maybe from 2010 we should be more constinalty in the 8 with a real push from 2011, a few more kps kids to come in , hold our nerve at trade/draft time and dont get sucked into getting rejects to the detremental of our current players.the stage has been set this year for a reall strong push, but very tuff decisions need to be made about certain players and to see if they are part of the way forward or a hindarnce

One thing that will become apparent from next year is how wrong the club got the recruiting in 05' Drafting only 3 players (JON, Hughes and Casserley) and one trade (P Bowden) was not nearly enough and they didn't hit the mark on any of them either.

Draftees from 05' will be in their fourth year next year and should be making a serious impact on the teams performance, much like Deledio, Moore, Foley and to a lesser extent Thursfield and Tambling did this year. Hard to see that happening with the likes of JON, Hughes and Casserley.

And to think we may only draft 3 players again this year.

Good point on the 05 class. Really can't see these guys stepping up. All 3 are already stuggling just to make a impact. Fingers crossed with Huges.

Anyway you cut it, this 05 draft was an abysmal failure. Are Casserley and JON ever going to get a kick?

Agree, granted it was a weak draft but at the very least you would expect one 150 gamer, looks like we may struggle to get one 50 gamer out of the main draft. White has been the only real consolation and I hope Hughes takes the next step but there are no guarantees.

we need to have at least 4 picks in this yrs ND

couldn't see more than 5 though. would be scraping the barrel of talent and i don't think we need that many changes.

4-5 sufficient

Happy with 5 from the ND and 6 rookies.

What is the strike rate for the other 15 clubs from the 05 draft?

The top three were good. A couple of OK players in the top 10 or 15. But after picks one - three, it was pretty average draft.

I don't think the 2005 draft will turn out anywhere near as bad as some think. Still far too early to call after only 3 years in the system.

Murphy, Thomas, Ellis, Kennedy, Pendlebury, Ryder, Clark, Higgins, Jones, Birchall, Varcoe, Ibbotson, McKinley, Vince, Anthony, Tuck, maybe even Hughes as well.

Most of those players have already established themselves as starting 22 players for their side and won't peak for another 2 years.

Agree - some real talent in there

Tend to agree.

Any of the 8 immediately taken after JON and we would be very happy.

We butchered it, simple.

where are we?

Well Sugar, NGB, Richo and Simmonds all finished top10 bnf......JBowden also was a major contributor 2nd half of the yr.

So what happens when these blokes go? Will they still be able to give what they previously have now they are 30+?

Could we actually go backwards?

So....

devils advocate...

trade for Kerr....and have a genuine crack at top4 while Simmo, Richo and Browny are all still capable of good footy.

Yes over the next few years richo, sugar ,browny, and joel will retire, however i expect that many of our juniors will more than fill the void as they approach their peak .we dont seem to rely on these veterans as much any more.Richo and sugar had good years as shown in the B&F,but i wouldnt mind betting the line forming behind them is just about ready to knock the door down

Richo - Jack??
Simmonds - ? ???
Brown - Morton?? Connors??
Bowden - McMahon?? Tambling??

Johnson is the one that seems most easily covered but I am not as confident as you that these guys will be easily replaced hence why they are all being asked to play on for another season..
