Where do we stand in respect to other teams?

As I assess our fine clubs potential, It has occurred to me that despite us improving, It doesn’t mean other clubs haven’t improved more. I took a look at each club list and have given my amateur opinion below as to what I expect their club to achieve on the ladder this year, given their coach, age, skill and depth.

Club Comment Coach 2006 Ladder

Adelaide Crows Experienced Powerful Well Coached.                 Improve
Brisbane Older, have been figured out Reasonably Coached Decline
Carlton Too inexperienced Well Coached Decline
Collingwood Average players with experience Well Coached Hold
Essendon Inexperienced and aging Well Coached Decline
Fremantle Good players, not enough depth Poor Coach Hold
Geelong Good players & Hyped players                 Average Coach                 Decline
Hawthorn Still too young Jury out on Coach                 Hold
Kangaroos Not enough depth                 Good Coach Decline
Melbourne Good but need more Average Coach                 Hold
Port Power Experienced, maybe aging                 Average Coach                 Hold
Richmond Better 2nd half of season with depth Good Coach Improve
St Kilda All round strength Average Coach                 Improve
Swans Good but will be counteracted                 Good Coach Decline
West Coast Great skills from many Good Coach Hold
Bulldogs Great depth and skill Good coach Improve

The ladder last year:

Adelaide
West Coast
Sydney
St Kilda
Kangaroos
Geelong
Melbourne
Port Adelaide
Western Bulldogs
Fremantle
Brisbane Lions
Richmond
Essendon
Hawthorn
Collingwood
Carlton

By my reckoning we will not be passed by those below us in 2005 (small risk from Collingwood)

We will pass Brisbane

We will be battling the Kangaroos, Port Adelaide and Fremantle, possibly Sydney and Geelong if the slip to the degree I think they will, due to other teams about them improving.

How do you see the teams around us? Which are also improving like us, so we won’t necessarily pass them?

(apologies for the formatting of the table, I gave up after three tries)

Cant see how Carlton can decline any further ;D
Like i said in another thread we will be ok against the bottom 4 and 50/50 with the middle 5-6 while the top 5 or so we can forget about it.

True ladder wise it is hard for them to decline, but on field they can with respect to other teams.

Maybe we can tell them they are no longer worthy of a wooden spoon, and give them a plastic salad server?

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

The Toigs are in front of Carlton, Hawthorn & Essendon. A close (or there abouts) bottom 4 finish are on the cards.

Good Arguement to be made for Relegation, Carlton could go back to the A-League. :dummyspit

Interested, i wouldn't worry overmuch about my assesment of Daniher. He was a tough one. I probably should have made it out of ten, and i'd guess he is near seven.

You'd admit it has been kinda hard to judge Melbournes performance year by year? ;D

agreed, injuries have hurt the Dees, but Daniher has never had his role questioned.

If Collingwood have a decent run with injuries they could surprise many. I hate to say it, but thats the way I see it. I agree with most of the other assessments.

For some reason Richmond always lose a game or 2 that they should win, take Carlton last year probably cost us any chance for finals, then we can beat Brisbane in Brisbane.

We are a very hard team to predict, but i spose the whole leage is going that way.

Yep. Almost all teams start on an even keel this year after the Swannies surprise win last season. Most sides would think they have a genuine shot at making the finals and even the outside chance of winning a flag. There's certainly no clear cut favourite to win the premiership although obviously there's a couple more favoured than others.

The only real exceptions being Carlton at the bottom end. Very hard to see them going anywhere.

Most of our younger blokes won't stand the buffeting of a full season so we should keep most of them out of the way - introduce them later on.

Stack the senior team with older blokes for the first part of the season, giving a few kids a taste of it along the way.

I can see us a having a real impact in the latter stages and if we win a a couple early...a few more in the middle and then really rev it up for the last 10 games...we could just sneak in there and have momentum, form and confidence as well.

rounds 1-4... tough games_ nice if we could snag one; (1)
rounds 5-8:  we could pinch three (4)
rounds: 9-12: win a couple more   (6)
rounds 13-16; two more  (8)
rounds 17 - 22: all in melb. 4 at the G. Come home hard (13)
finals: do some damage
