Listening and reading Terry Wallace's press conference had me fuming.
Listening him apologise to the Bulldog fans and to Smorgon just reafirmed my opinion of Wallace when i was critical of him 2 years ago writing for the Sun. On one particular occasion he wrote about the Dogs and you could tell his heart and mind was still with them. Privately i bet that he wished he never walked out on the club, didnt try to do the "dirty" on the club that gave him his coaching chance for the gig at the Swans. He was going for money and he ,even then was blaming poor resources at the Dogs. The Swan players had a wind that he was going to be there coach and the players didnt want him there. They wanted Roos and the rest is history.
He left the Hawks to come to the Tigers for money.
He left the tigers after a season and went to the Dogs. Ended up being their coach after some suspicious circumstances. The players after he did the dirty on them , with one/two games to go and the players opted to not have him coach the last few games.
Now fast forward to the Tigers. 5 YEARS ago he got the job with much fanfare , promises of success. He had the choice of the gig at the Hawks and the Tigers. He chose us as , quote"we had the best list, exciting list". What i believed happened was that he wasnt keen on the Hawks job. I believe money was the key here. Richmond was offering more than what teh Hawks could. Remember the Hawks were not travelling financially that well. Hence they chose Clarkson and we chose Wallace. Again rest is history.
Now back to the press conference. How dare he use that as a medium to apologise for his mercenary action for leaving the Dogs.?
If his conscious has got the better of him, well , he has had over 6 and a half years to get over it. I am sure Smorgon couldnt give a rats arse or the players. They have moved forward. His regret is that he could still have been coaching them and maybe achieving ultimate success.
How about apologising to us Tiger supporters who have endured his spin for almost 5 years. Taking $2.5 million and running. The promises that he made that we would be playing finals, exciting football, 100 pts a game etc etc. Spin doctoring even to the end.
How can we still pay him his remainder of his contract. I dont care what arrangements Gary made. How about giving that money back to the supporters that paid good hard earned money on the proviso of finals this year?(tongue in cheek, but i am angry).
Calling our club a "basket case" before he took over. Hey Wallace you were in the media a year and a half and you would have had a good idea of the list. Yet all he thought was just to play finals and not build the list. Now we find ourselves in a position whereby we may not see finals for some time, Gold Coast coming in and taking all the good talent, and maybe rebuilding again. More waiting for us fans.
Again the blame game. Wallace is and has been good at diverting blame away from him and blaming others. His ego and stubborness cost him dearly.
His heart still lies at the Dogs. Always has and i always knew it. Sub consciously he may not wanted to fail but he did. Miserably.
Only 2 players were seen at the conference today. Newman and Joel. Does this say something or am i reading too much into it ?
Lets see what responce the players give Terry come Friday night. Could this be another "Gaspergate" performance?
Lastly and i will leave it at that is , his comment that the club isnt upset at him and he isnt upset at the club. Hey Terry why would you be upset at the club, you got paid handsomely for doing "jack" and the club, well, we supporters are the club and we are damn upset at YOU.
