Which Player would use for a shootout

rbartlett said:
Good topic Idea.

I would go for.

Jeff Hogg. Michael Roach. :)

-Rhett Bartlett.

If we follow Rhett's theme....the players I WOULDNT go for...Paddy Guinane, Brian Roberts, and Craig Mc Kellar.

of the current crop.....if it was shootout for a win....I would have Lids as the man. He is proving to be a cool customer....and as much as I want him out of the forward line.....the big fella! I reckon with a heart the beats yellow and black I would back him in on a tight angle about 45 out. He would do it!

Lids
Newman
Richo
Schulz
Pettifer - as long as he doesn't have to chase anybody, tackle anybody, and is handed the ball, he'll kick the goal. Get those High Fives Petts, go to full back if you have to get 'em, but you go get 'em.

Why is everyone saying simmonds? :o Can't remember the last time he kicked straight from a set shot.

I'd give it to Deledio, Pettifer or Shultz.

I think you'll find a lot of Simmonds goals are from closer than 20. Very unreliable from 35-50.

Deledio
Brown
*smile*
Tambling
Edwards

Don't know why Edwards didn't take that set shot in the 3rd quarter instead of running off and snapping a point

Brown
Edwards
Delidio
Newman (yes, even after yesterdays effort)

and my snakey is...

Pattison

Statistically, Simmo is the second best set shot for goal in the league of the past few years, so he's in.

Tucky is questionable on the run, but he's a dead-eye from a set shot.

I agree with those suggesting Hydey as he always seems to take advantage of every goal-scoring opportunity.

I know that Sarge lost his compass a bit last year, but he's got a great technique, so he's in.

Finally, I would go with the skipper. No better time for a captain's goal than a shoot-out.

Of those who didn't play on the weekend, my list would be, Pettifer, Hughes, Cotchin, Casserley and Bowden. Strangely, they would be a very good chance to beat the lads who played.

The most entertaining list would be the players you wouldn't want kicking in a shoot-out. Imagine Polak, Richo, White, Patto and McGuane. Even the English national side would have a chance of winning a shoot-out against that lot. ;D

Only one man. Nathan Brown. Some people are just supposed to be on centre stae.

Lids, Sarge, Morton, Jack and in the all important 45 slot Luke McGuane.

Actually coming to think of it, anywhere from less than 45m out, 45 degree angle either side, Id back Chris Hyde as much as anyone else in the comp. Hes such a good set shot imo.

The best set shot we have (from a distance anyway) has to be Kayne Pettifer.

My 5 would be:

Brown
Pettifer
Schulz
Deledio
Morton

Garbage. We were talking about this the other day and you nominated Duncan Kellaway, Gaspar, McGuane, Angus Graham and Pattison.

Pity Hyde missed that set shot from 45m yesterday in the second quarter, obviously not on enough of an angle?

Lids, Brown, Newman, Schulz & Tuck (some of his field kicking is scheizen, but his kicking for goal is pretty good)

kicked a very good set shot at goal on tight angle 35-40m out yesterday, may murder it with his field kick but knows where the sticks are.

Johnson - don't remember the last time he missed a set shot.
Lids
N Brown
Tambling.
Tuck - another who butchers in the general play but very good set shot

Special mention to Jackson and Newman

Richo as long as it's out near the 50 metre mark on the RHS of the ground.

NOT Petifer. He misses them all the time. Crucial ones too.
Not Symmonds. Heart in mouth every time.
Jay is out of goal kicking form at the moment too. I used to call him "gunbarrel" but he's got to get his goal kicking confidence back.
