PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

It came up during the year that Jake King was getting less money to play AFL as a rookie than he would have made as a plumber. I guess that's been rectified by now.

And I don't know the details of Matthew Clarke's last contract (perhaps there was a minimum guaranteed) but I imagine that he could have made more money as a vet than playing the PS2.

I reckon AFL is a dangerous game and there are times to be sensible. But most seniors are getting five grand a week to play and now, at last, it looks like their medical benefits are set to improve.

Obliquely I'm making the point that you get five grand a week to put your head over the ball and that's what you oughta do. Skinny King he was getting robbed and still never shirked one.

But who else is paying (sacrificing earnings) to play the game?
