Which part of the general section Red?

After having lived there for a while, I'd have to agree with you certainly with regards to the locals interest in sport.
But Sydney isn't just about sport. Sydneysiders show their passion in different ways.
I guess all I am saying is there's always exceptions to every rule and your statement didn't really allow for that.

I really can't be bothered in having a long debate about it because you obviously hold strong views on it and I've seen you argue before.  :) :blah.

I'll be going for Sydney tomorrow mainly because I live there(well not for the next few years) but my heart will always be a Tiger :emblem.

That is a pisser of an article on Sydney RF, as I've harped on the 'Sydney sucks' thread or whatever it was called, I agree with every word. Thing that amazed me as a young bloke when I first went to Sydney in the late 1980s, I expected the NRL following to be just like our VFL. Wrong. I was amazed how on a saturday in town you hardly saw a soul on their way to the game in team colours, which was a fantastic part of Melbourne back then when all games were played Saturday arvo.

While I agree 100% with your 'Sydney is a passionless town of spivs' theory, I'm barracking for the Swans because they've carved something out from within that adversity, albiet with AFL assistance.

Yeah right, different ways, real estate prices, Porsche Cayennes, Gucci clothes, air kissing, very passionate about that.

Course theres exceptions though TOO, but you can only have an argument about generalizations.

Another thing RF, I reckon all Aussie cities are generally pretty passionless compared to Melbourne, with the possible exception of Adelaide.

Up here in Brisbane everybody supports the Broncos, but not with any real passion, same goes for the WCE in Perth. The fans of both these sides just seem to go through the motions.

I guess that thread would be this one. Very interesting.

Actually I agree with a lot that was said Redford.

I've never really warmed to Sydney having moved there 10 years ago from Canberra. .I love the beaches, the harbour and the weather. Most who live there would think that too. To be honest the rest I could care less about. But all those things I mention are pretty damn appealing.

I'd move to Melbourne in a heartbeat. It's a great city in it's own right, no doubt about that. Would like to see my beloved Tigers in action, but my wife grew up in Sydney and has family so that's not going to happen in a hurry athough when we get back from Bangers.... Ironically she was an NRL fan(now AFL convert) before she met me but has fallen in love with the Swannies being a Sydney girl.

As for the Swans.
Well AFL in Sydney is really only just beginning in Sydney and has nothing of the tradition of Melbourne clubs so it's a bit much to expect the same passion from fans that is generated by Melbourne, SA & WA clubs where the game has solid foundations.
That's a big reason I'm going for Sydney actually. I'd love to see the sport thrive in Sydney as much as elsewhere and there's no better place to start than with a premiership.

You're spot on about generalisations Tigersnake. We could argue forever over those! But the fact is Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia and always will be.

The thing that impressed me today was Roosy in the press conference - when asked about the Swannies supporters he said he and the team were completely overwhelmed by the show of support from Sydney fans but particularly Melbourne based fans. I can't remember his exact words but he basically said the club is still deeply respectful of its Sth Melbourne heritage and they always make an effort to hold family days, functions etc each year in Melb. When asked about the comparative lack of pomp & ceremony in Sydney, he said it has enabled them to focus on the game plan this week. (He's such a classy guy IMO).

And as for my little Sydney pad, well I've just finished blowing up some red & white balloons (which of course will have the odd yellow & black thrown in for good measure just as soon as I've picked myself back up from the floor! :whistle).

Sydney = dud sporting city. Melbourne = sports capital of the world !!! :hihi

Crystal is the only person up there that knows anything about sport, I'm sure. :hihi

C'mon WCE...flog them ! :hihi

Go the Eagles. Living in Perth i have to say that i want the eagles to win. They have clearly been the best team all year and i think it would be a disgrace if sydney won the flag. Could u imagine!! The town wouldnt give a crap!! As if they care about the sydney swans when the NRL finals are on. I can also tell you that it is totally different around here. Everyone in the state is getting into grand final fever. With the midfield that they have, i think the eagles will have too much legs and run out 4-5 goal winner...I pray to god they do anyway...coz i personally couldnt stand it if sydney (possibly the most boring team in AFL history) was to lift the cup tomorrow.

Go the eagles........wirrpunda for norm smith.....2 years ago he should have been a TIGER!!! and what we missed out on there!!!

Are you originally from Perth? If so that might explain a lot. If not then you must be a recluse, it is impossible to be a Victorian, live in Perth and support the Eagles.

yes mate i am origianlly from perth...i dont like the eagles supporters one little bit. but i spose i should still be loyal to my home town...even though every time richmond come to play here i cop a barrage of hassle from the supporters at the game. and does anyone know how i go about getting an interstate membership for the tigers?? i have everything else u could possibly think of....jumper, scarf, beanie, wobbly head thing, car seat covers and licence plates...now i just need to add a membership and i will be sweet....so if anyone knows how i go about getting one for next season could they please let me know....cheers all

Easy, just contact the Richmond footy club & they will tell you what the deal is with getting an interstate membership, they will send you the application. I imagine their wouldn't be too many cars in WA getting about with RFC licence plates!

I will be supporting the Swans. I played for South Melb Districts along the lake in juniors & seniors, so I would love to see them win for alot of the older people who used to come & watch us. I am not surprised about how many South/Sydney supporters their are lately, they have always been there, just not overly vocal, pretty hard I guess when your club packed up a quarter of a century ago.
Go Bloods.
