hmm given the choice i would go with one of simmonds for a yr or two while deledio finishes his development. brett has certain areas he needs to get better at to lead the team.
tuck for a couple of yrs but consistency is a thing with tucky. or foley as the next long term captain.

to me simmo is the man.

i think in 3 yrs time if he makes the grade dan connors would make a good onfield leader. same for jack.
for me the onfield leaders main roles are to lay down the law to both teammates and opposition and lead by example that is someone who takes hits for the team and dishes them out. hes someone who makes his teammates stand a foot taller someone who never takes a backward step.

to top it of someone who is damaging with the ball.noone wants a vandenberg as skipper. pretty hard comination of things to get nowdays.

There are rumors (probably urban legends) that Simmo is not really a team kind of guy. Who knows if it's true? But he is a three club player.

We've got a big issue that we've got so few players in the the 25-30 age brackets that you normally get captains from.

Shane Tuck is the man to wear the #17 jersey for RFC. He's ready, of the right age, it's in his blood and he is widely respected in the football community.

Brett Deledio as VC would be a good move too.

And PRE were Shane's first sponsors at the club. That's got to hold him in good stead.

You can't get any greater respect than that..... makes him a near certainty for the job ;)

If you could get Tucky and infuse him with Jack's extroverted nature, you'd have some sort of a captain.

Personally, I think we will get more out of Tuck by allowing him to concentrate on his own game, without the burden of captaincy.

To me it has to be Newman, the leader from the back half directing the traffic with his long kicks. Seems to be well respected as well.

he maybe a leader and a beautiful kick, but he's almost as unacountable as mcdud. i don't think he should be considered.

Selling our soul to Queensland.
Its only logical we,ll give the captaincy to a Queenslander.
Luke McGuane[capt]

good point :'(

i can see valid arguments for richo, simmo, browny and bowden. but when we lose, most of the time it's the senior players that let us down. the club recognises this and realise it's time for generational change in regards to club leadership.

for mine it's out of deledio and foley. tuck is my dark horse. if newman gets it i will fair dinkum :vomit

Just chuck him the #17 jersey and watch him thrive on the challenge 8)

We need someone who leads by example more than words. How many flags did Hawthorn win under that "extrovert" named Tuck who also wore #17?

Come on. Have you heard Tucky talk. He makes his Dad and Uncle Gary look like Rhode Scholars.
Don't get me wrong, he's a good hard player but can you imagine him at a press conference with that hair do and saying Yeah mate "love ya work" at the end of the interview. We'd get the bogan award off Collingwood!!

ha ha too true...he is almost as bad as jake king.....ok..well not THAT bad!!!

Getting a decent haircut would be the first prerequisite for the job ;D

Apart from that I'd rather have a captain who wins us flags than a show pony like the Pies had. We are a traditional working-class, family orientated club. In any case, can you seriously imagine Shane hosing down copshop walls? :o

Agree. Newman...meh. Mad Cow for a year or two with maybe Lids or Foley thereafter for mine.

If they dont want to appoint Mad Cow (which appears to be the case), then would prefer Foley. Lids isnt ready.

Doesn't that method make so much sense? It has to be the way to go. Very easy and a logical succession path.

Which is usually the direct opposite of the way Richmond think.

I was on a train home from the footy with a group of blokes one being one of Tucky's ex house mates. The bloke was off his face, none of us believed he knew Tucky so he rang him in the rooms and put it on hands free.
If he still knocks around with those blokes, hosing copshops would be the least of our problems
