According to an article in the H/S yesterday Richmond have admitted interest in Ben Haynes and another Essendon player delisted this week.

Surely it wouldn't be Ty so I'm just wondering who else they've delisted.

Found the answer....

Five players -- Zantuck, Ben Haynes, Marc Bullen, Sam Hunt and Damian Cupido -- have been axed by the Bombers this week.

Now which one would it be?

Sam Hunt may be the one I might be interested in.

22yo, 193cm, 90kg

Given 3 games in 2002, when 18yo.
No games in 2003 or 2004.
Given 4 games in 2005, at 21yo, for average 5K, 2M, 2HBs. (Not marvellous!)
With Fletcher, Bolton, Bradley & Henneman there, Hunt didn't really get a go.

But at 22yo, and at 193cm.
If we don't get the fellows that we want in the ND, then Hunt could be an option.

Marc Bullen,
23yo, 187, 85
44 games, at Ave 10 disps, 2 mks & 2.5 tkls a game. No, not good enough.

The others ......., well, we'll let the wicketkeeper take those.

Bullen is another one in the Ted Richards situation at Essendon, who just kept getting dropped/promoted every second week or so it seemed. I'd like to look at stats and see how many continuous matches he has played in recent time.

I think he had a good year in 02 or 03, but he hasnt gone on with it since then.

Sam Hunt from this group is the only one we should look at the others are only VFL level .. Hunt did not have many opptunities at the Bombers good be good in the backline

Thanks Phantom, I've been off looking at that and just come back to see the link. Seems he didnt get dropped as often as I thought, played every match from Round 9 during 03.

Dropped 3 times during 04, and then played 7 games in 05, but was in and out on 4 occasions.

Career high of 20 possesions, probably should have made it by now for his size and age, and hasnt. Given Essendon having a poor midfield, you have to question why he couldnt establish a spot in their rotation.

Mid-season I think i suggested he would be a good target, as a cheap rotation player, but having looked at his stats, I'm not so sure.

I can't believe Haynes is being seriously considered. He has had several chances which he has been unable to take, usually because of injury. He hasn't spent a lot of time playing as a small defender, one area of weakness for us, has spent more time as a small forward than he has in the midfield and we have a stack of similar players, both young and experienced.

What does he bring to the table that we need? Will he be able to play as a small defender or free someone else up to do this? Will he slot into the midfield? More likely to slot into the Grandstand on match days due to another frustrating injury!

Hunt might be OK. Essendon fans don't rate him but he has been behind Fletcher, Wellman, Bradley and some Sheedy love-children in Henneman and Bolton. Hard to get a game in these circumstances. Looks more a third defender than a real KPP though. We have plenty of those.

Haynes was doing well until he broke his arm in '05

Bombers still have quite a few duds on their playing list... Bolton, Murphy :-X

I'm not saying we should pick him up, yet Phantom you show us his stats in possesions, have you also got a stat for the amount of game time he had in those games otherwise the stats are not very relevant.

If I had it, I'd show it. So would you make a decision without any info at all?

No I would'nt, but it is hard to judge a fringe player on stats alone when you probably find they spend more time on the pine than they do on the ground. Its good to have stats on your top players, because they tend to spend nearly all of the game on the ground, its also great to have stats on the kids coming through to get true value with your draft pick.
