For what it is worth these are the players I would like to see kept for '10.

For experience

Cousins.........................Age 31
Richo....................................34
Newman...............................27
Tambling...............................23 Might be a bit of a stretch here.

Keep Not in any order.

Collins............................Age 21
Connors................................21
Cotchin..................................19
Deledio..................................22
Foley......................................24
Jackson..................................23
Morton...................................22
Post.......................................20
Rance.....................................20
Riewoldt.................................21
Vickery...................................19

That is only 15 players. I realise we can't just scrap the rest and have a team, even after draft picks, so there will be a few to remain on the list, but heh, the one's I have left out are not all that good, and IMHO, not really up to AFL senior standard. The tender age of a lot of those listed by me here may surprise some, and we should not condemn so heavily when they don't perform on a given day.

Therein lies a conundrum for the new coach. I guess almost everyone will have differing views on who to keep and who should go, but of course that will be determined next year by the club.

You've missed a few in my opinion.

Edwards, Nahas, McGuane, Thursfield, Polo, Hislop, Thomson and King should be safe for 1 more year.

You are correct. I should have included Nahas. McGuane Moore and Thursfield are too slow, not good marks, always seem to be behind their men and don't provide any run from the backline aka Lake and Scarlett to name two. The others probably will make it, but I am not impressed with them at all so far. Maybe the new coach will instill some better skills into them. Hard to make a silk purse froma sow's ear though.

If you were to build a team around any of our players they would have to be Lids, Bling, Vickery, Post and the Cotch... that would be about it.

Let's just build a team.

Look at the weekend. Who have Collingwood built their team around?

I heard a comment about them this morning, they might not have many A graders, but they have no C graders (Leigh Brown is a D grader :hihi)

St. Kilda had 7 guys out, 6 are probably going to be All-Australian, everyone stepped up, they had 115 tackles. They didn't beat Richmond or Melbourne, they beat last years premiers.

We need all players to start doing team oriented things.

well the club might start by appointing Deledio captain next year perhaps? He may rise to the challenge and at least has some god given talent. Whatever they decide, the new coach surely must be given plenty of input into these decisions. You build a team around leaders, that's how the military has done it for centuries and it's how the corporate world functions as well.

Agree wholeheatedly. If our players played with some venom and commitment, we'd be in a better place. Tanking for picks goes totally against this philosophy. If all our players played with the desire that King pllayed with yesterday, or Tambling over the last month or so, we'd be right in the final 4 mix.

It's a culture/mindset problem at RFC first.

The future of our club will be built around

Mids
Cotchin
Deledio
Tambling
Foley

Fwds
Riewoldt
Morton
Post
Nahas

Backs
McGuane
Thursfield
Moore
Rance

Rucks
Vickery
Browne or Putt(maybe Gus)

That's a young list of players (apart from Moore) & before you say anything IMO our defence is underrated. People go on & on about how good Scarlett & Lake are etc. These guys are seasoned campaigners, they didn't get there overnight. I remember a certain Bulldogs defender having 10 kicked on him one day big the big man who continually outmarked him.

I've said it time and time again. We have the nucleus of what could be a young successful side. Emma Quayle has an article posted on this in the journos section

Start with Deledio, Tambling, Jackson, Polo & Thursfield.

Then include the worthwhile juniors / developing players that were recruited at that time and afterward.

Make sure we continue to recruit for any gaps.

We shouldn't be building our team around those that will only play for another season or two.

Not possible, I have no doubt they try unfortunately we lack depth. No matter how hard King tries he will be exposed as an ordinary footballer by the better sides. Same with Pattison, White, Jackson, McGuane, Polo etc. We cannot carry too many "battlers". I don't doubt for one second their application, nor the fact they train hard and do all the right things off the field. They simply aren't good enough.
