I agree with you though that we don't have a true enforcer, but AK wasn't that either.
Mate....is this some kind of psychoanalysis exam or something? :hihi
The title of the thread is a simple question:
"Who is our inspirational brave player now?"
And, my simple answer is:
"No-one."
Kellaway (and Chaff) were brave in that they went back into packs......but they weren't inspirational, with sensational pieces of play that got the team-mates all pumped-up, or the crowd on their feet....say, like a Carey in his heyday.
And also....as good as White, Lids, Polo, Rainsey look.....I don't consider them brave or inspirational, at this stage.
Good players who will have a dip and take players on, yes......brave? inspirational? No.
You're talking champions - if you know where we can get one then please tell TW. We haven't had a genuine enforcer who scared the oppposition since Mark Lee, though he'd be lucky to play a dozen games a year with all the cameras these days. Free was a great captain and Turner and Staff have done their bit, but you're right. Our recent captains - Johnson, Campbell, Knights - have been good/arguably great players but not likely to make the opposition squirm. If Johnno retired tomorrow who would we give the captaincy to - Joel Bowden?
Agree with your point that we are physically soft in comparison to most other clubs and we'll be put to the test if we look like challenging the top teams. This has a fair bit to do with the balance of our list though. The physicality should come with maturity; it'll have to as soft teams don't win flags. Perhaps this is part of the culture that needs changing.
