Foley is not a match winner, Deledio is.

I'm tempted to think you're joking.

We've only got two match winners in the side. Foley is one. Deledio is not the other.

Someone kicked 5 goals in the collingwood match and imo was the difference.

If Foley was a match winner he would have turned every game on its head. He is a consistant ball geater, with great endevour but is not in the same category as Brett Deledio. On effort, yes, he is. But all round, he wont be.

The topic states who is more valuable? I take into account the dreaded word potential, but also impact. Deledio is an impact player that makes a difference. Deledio has not hit his peak but has progressed as a footballer and keeps on improving. He can play inside 50, down back and in the middle. Foley is one dimensional.

IMO a matchwinner = Richo, Hunter, Lucas, J.Brown, N.Brown, Thompson, Reiwoldt, Neitz, Judd, Franklin, Ablett, Mooney, Cox, Cornes.

Foley, by far, will contribute much more to us winning games then Deledio at this stage. Brett's got a long way to go and as I said in a previous post a lot has to do with personal attitude.

Tough call given their respective current on field positions.
Foley: Better attitude currently...reckon he has peaked as a ball winner..hard body type to tag though...I see his future as a kirk type tagger/ball winner in his own right.
Lids: Don't really know...massive potential...seems off when in the middle...wether that is him or lack of game plan or adherence by team mates..hmmm dunno.
Trade value: Lids, Team value: Foley, Ground position.....ummmmm....Lids just. Glad we have the predicament really!

By virtue of Richmond's dearth of midfield ball winners Foley is probably more valuable to the team that the rest of the players, including Deledio, combined right now.

I just think this is rubbish. Deledio is very level headed overall for a youngster of his age with such big wraps. Deledio did get 18.36 possessions a match playing in all sorts of unusual positions including a fair time forward. Foley is a great player, and has worked his guts out to get to where he is. Averaging over 24 possessions a game he has been the feature of our midfield with his ball-getting ability and quality of disposal. You can't help but feel that Deledio is ready to explode though. He has all the attributes necessary, speed, sure hands, height, veratility, quality disposal to become one of the best players in the league. Given Deledio has 2 years on Foley, I think we'll see a superior player to Foley in 2 years time.

If Lids gets 15 touches a game this season he'll be in for a 50 plus goal year

Which brings me to the post I was ready to make.

Who would you rather with the ball in his hands?

In traffic, definitely Foley, watch this closesly, Deledio's weakness in the skill department is his handballing. My mate pointed this out to me last year and it's true. Deledio constantly misses the target with the hands.

Other than that, Deledio is the prefered player with the ball.

As for Deledio's attitude, I think he is very focused! I dont know where people are getting the impression that he isnt focused or committed? Every time he is in the paper he is stating where and why he wants to improve.

I agree with you GoodOne, Deledio is ready this year or next year to take the game apart.
