Who owns the AFL?

A question.

Who owns the AFL? I assume that they were a body set up to administer our game at some stage by somebody. They cannot be a private company so I assume there must be some sort of "share holding". Is it the clubs? Is it the AFL members?

What I want to know is how do we, as grass roots AFL and club members, make some sort of protest against the current administration and what they are doing to our game? If we felt that the administration was not taking good enough care of our game is there some way that we can get rid of them?

I strongly feel that the running of the AFL is a responsibility no one should take lightly. The changing of the rules should be something that is done with great care and much thought. The current climate where rules seem to be changed willy nilly is not good enough and some one should be held accountable.

Andrew Demetriou and his associates do not own the game and should take a great deal more care than they current are.

Bloody good question. Where can I buy shares in 'em?

heard what andrew d said about the hands in the back "hysteria"?.. he just has no proper answers to back up this sh1t rule, keeps saying 'its working' and some people (leigh mathews) love it.. go to hell.. Is is possible to challange a board to get him and adrian a sacked?? its for the sake of footy!!!!!!!!! :help

.........

If you want to find out about the structure of the AFL, simply purchase a copy of their Constitution from the relevant corporations document repository (or contact the AFL themselves, they may well be able to provide you with a copy).

AFAIK the only people who can vote at an AFL General Meeting are those who have been awarded AFL Life Memberships, "AFL Members" have no rights whatsover in the corporate sense.

If you want changes at AFL Board level, organise the various AFL Life Members to do something (good luck.....)

I can understand the reaction to the current rule changes which were obviously rushed in without proper thought of the impact (I hate anything that takes the body contact out of footy personally)

But as far as growth of the game and maximising sponsor and TV dollars you cannot fault the current administration.

At what on-field cost has the off-field conquests come at though?

I thought that the clubs boards or CEO's appointed or voted off the commissioners of the AFL, they need a vote of about 65% to shift them out.
The commissioners then appoint guys like Dimi etc. as CEO or various managers to run the actual day to day business of the AFL.

Not much publicity in it for him in doing that. From what I have seen from Crazy John is that he is a business man first and being a Tigers supporter is well down his list, otherswise surely he would be putting a lot more sponsorship dollars in the club rather than other clubs. Personally I dont want him on the RFC board (which he has been talking about) lcause I really believe he would do it for the benifit of Carzy John not to help the RFC,
