Who plays on Hird this week??

Marco Polo for mine.

Has had every big job so far this year. Burton, Goodes were all part of the learning curve. I am sure TW would have had the video of how Luke Hodge played on Jimmy last week and showed this is the way to play him without showing him too much respect.

You have to expose him on the rebound but be able to play tall, that is why I think Marco is the perfect matchup.
2nd choice would be Andrew Raines who has just about played on everyone but would like to see him get a little bit of tick in the midfield.

If Newman was fit he would be a walk up.

Play Stafford on Hird........ at the 1st bounce bang smash crunch lights out for Hird........nice work Greg, now down to full forward for the rest of the match & then have an enforced break next week!

Agree, 1st choice match-up for Polo - let him run with Hird in the forward line, centre bounces, back line, bench - everywhere, as it would be a great education for Polo from a genuine champion of the modern game.

2nd choice would be Matt White, just for a small burst if Polo gets injured or lost in the rotations.

From what i saw ToO, it looked like Lids started on him and then Hyde went onto him after that. I might stand corrected though.....

A lot of his early possessions were soft 'Nathan Buckley' type possessions off half back. Didn't really hurt RFC until the second half. The free kick he got for a goal in the 3rd was a gift fom the umpire. It seems Hird is untouchable, and a protected species.

That free kick to Hird in the 3rd quarter was THE softest free I have ever witnessed.

Vast majority of his possies were uncontested, hanging off the back of the pack with zero pressure. The ONLY time he threatened was in the last 10 min of the second quarter when we were just not tight enough on him in the centre. Admittedly he played well THEN and things tended to happen...the flat kick-and-hope to johnson (I think?) that got them a second goal inside 30 sec was luck, but the best players seem to have the luck.

Second half, he was just another player. We had his measure when he went forward (the free and goal he got were as soft as anything I have seen this year) and Sugar at the very least broke even on him after half time (I reckon Kane beat him myself but maybe I am biased). I am sure the commentators were having aneurysms over him in that second Q, but the reality is, he was down for most of the game.

Yeah, I agree...but that goal he kicked from the boundary off two steps in the last quarter...that was all class. Had me applauding, in any case.

Especially compared to 2 far worse incidents to Joel and Johnno at the other end.  Neither got a free.

Not sure we paid Hird enough respect and he killed us when he was at the centre bounces resulting in a few Bummer goals bringing them right back into the game.  He might be gettting on but he's still a very dangerous player.  He showed enough to see why he's not hanging up the boots yet.
