Who replaces Rance

It'll change as we go through the season but thinking for next week probably Kmac and we bring one of Ellis or Markov to play on the wing.

Astbury - Coxhead
Grimes - De Goey
Vlastuin - Mihocek
Broad - Elliott
Short / Houli - Thomas
Kmac - Stephenson

Yes, I would bring in another midfielder/ runner given the shape of the Collingwood forward line. One of Ellis or Markov

Tallest other than the Coxhead is Mihocek at 192cm.

If we are struggling with height we will have Balta that we can always swing back if need be, he gives us some flexibility to start with another runner as he provides some insurance to head back if needed.

I would play Balta on Cox and run off him. IMHO we need an extra tall...not just for this match but for the other tall forward lines. The issue becomes who changes ruck with Nank (Lynch with recovering knee?)

Here is JR's answer.

Grigga is possibly the forgotten man potentially joining the back 7 a bit like joel bowden

Balta releases him from the mids

Hes a good size and smart as *smile*

A restructure could look like

rance and short out

Garthy and grigga in

imo we keep our system and use Broad.
Broad has the speed, height and strength (after 4? years in afl) to slot in the role. He, Grimes, Dave and Floss will then rotate thru and work the matchups. Houli and Short play the attacking role.
We need to replace Broad who covered all bases and provided run. Likely to be Ellis or Markov

We will bring in Garth only for some teams.
When we need Garth -> WC have Kennedy (Astbury) Darling (Broad) and ruck (Garth) or Crows have Tex (Astbury) Jenkins (Garth) and Lynch ( Broad)
When we use Broad + Ellis/Markov -> every other team

Grigg is still out injured isn't he?

McIntosh is a trained key defender assassin.

More importantly what do we do when we face a Mason Cox type chap? Put Nank back and play Soldo?
There fixed it for you. :rofl

Is Ben Miller injured.
Is he a chance at some stage, thought he looked ok in the 2nds last year

Ben Miller did not play the VFL practice match and is a MILE off it IMO

Broad does show that famous Rance-like desperation. Not a bad call for a direct replacement. In big games he always goes up a level and that could be a trait that comes into play if given the direct responsibility of filling Alex's shoes.

It appears to me that Broad's role has changed during some point last year as he was used almost exclusively as a lockdown defender and less attacking. At the same time Grimesy became more attacking (and played his best-ever footy). I think that also coincided with oppo teams putting more effort into Rance to stop him being so attacking. I expect that now Grimesy will take the Rance Role with probably Oleg coming in to do the secondary attacking role. Broad will probably maintain his lockdown role depending of course on who the opposition is.

Am I mistaken, or did we only concede 2 goals after Rancey went down?

Curnow and McKay are genuine monster KBF's, both were deployed deep i50,

and yet when the sky fell, and we surrendered all claim to the flag,

we conceded 2 goals?

I think we are better placed than any other side has ever been, to cover the loss of a 5 time AA fullback at the height of their powers.

The process stays the same.

Good points.
And we’ve got options.

If Astbury plays Rance, grimes becomes Astbury then Broad mcintosh Garthwaite or Balta can volunteer to cover grimes.
