In 2005 we acquired Paddy Bowden, then used him to soak up errant kicks and play kick to kick with his brother.
In 2006 we acquired Graham Polak, and subsequently used him to mop up kicks across half back.

Who will we use this year, to get free possessions across the half back line and inflate the value of the player?

It will all depend on whether we can pick up a tall defender. If so, Bowden will most likely get that gig. When he doesn't have to contend with blokes who are bigger & heavier than he is, he can carve sides up coming out of defence.

No doubt in my mind it will be Jordan McMahaon. In an attempt to justify giving away pick 19 for him, Wallace would want him to have the most impact and the most possible posessions he can get. Mark him down as LMID.

I agree too that it will be JM but wallace doesnt have to justify anything regardless whether we picked him up at 19 or 35 or PSD he would still play that sweeping role.

spot on

Nice conspiracy theory about Jordan but he's not really the type of player you play LMID. Actually Cale Morton is a prototype LMID in defense (tall, runs a lot, great disposal- compared a lot to Del Santo) but probably not the role for a first year player. Jordan will do it sometimes, but not as a regular.

To make Jordan look good all they have to do is give his instructions to run off his man whenever possible and not worry too much about defensive accountability.

It has to be Joel. If Polak can pick up a key defensive role then Joel should be released from playing on the gorilla's to play LMID. He's the only player there who has the skills to make it work.

More interested in who will be our LMIF

Actually, what we need to know is who will pick up their LMIFs. They have a tendency to win games for their teams, the nasty little beggers.

yeh hopefully it will be joel bowden.
If our defence comes good next year joel will be a very dangerous player as LMID.

Does it matter, the ball will just come straight back in until the opposition scores a goal. Until we address midield weaknesses everything else in meaningless. 30 possies in a team that loses by 10 goals week in week out is pointless.

Not so sure. I think Polak may keep it. He is too weak to play body on body. Depends on his preseason.

Jordy doesn't suit the role becuase TW likes to have someone who can fly as third man up.

Hopefully we go man on man.

I'm going for JON.

Agree with SCOOP's take on the type of player Wallace looks for as LMID.

But I reckon they will try to inflate JONs tyres by giving him the easy down back gig.

It's not so much that our mids aren't good enough - they just don't work hard enough! When our defenders are running out of defence looking for someone to kick to, everyone is bludging & actually jogging along WITH their opponent (actually, they are usually being led to the pill by their opponent). Present FFS!!!!

If JON could kick he'd be a monty for this role, but atm he can't even find a team mate with a kick, until he sorts that out he shouldn't be even considered for a spot in the senior side.
