PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Some of the least talked about skill areas involve shutting down the opposition and putting the body on the line. Tackles and Frees For are handy stats to assess those skills, so who have been our leaders in recent seasons and who can we look out for to lead the way in 2008?

Tackles:-

2004

Krak 95 tackles( 9th in AFL)
Johno 56(= 68th)
Joel 51(= 93rd)
Tiv 50(= 99th)

2005

Cogs 99(5th in AFL)
Krak 76(=27th)
Tuck 71(=35th)
Newie 65(=42nd)

2006

Tuck 72(=41st)
Tiv 71(=45th)
Foley 70(=50th)
Krak 51(=111th)

2007

Foley 90(34th)
Johno 70(=60th)
Tuck 61(=81st)

So it looks like a big welcome back for Cogs to help Foley, Johno and Tuck. Tambo, King, Tiv, Patto and Newie were next best. Ideally we need 3-4 who can chalk up 80+ for the season. Cogs, Foley and Tuck appear the most likely ........ and if Tambo improves on his tackling technique he could well join that trio.

Frees For

2004

Johno 31(=9th in AFL)
Joel 28(=19th)

2005

Krak 34(11th)
Richo 28(=24th)
Joel 26(=32nd)
Simmo 25(=38th)

2006

no-one with 25 or more

2007

King 36(12th in AFL)
Richo 34(=15th)

Thank God for young Jake and the big fella up forward. They are both prepared to bust a gut going for the ball. We need a few more like 'em. Lids got 24 FF's in 2007 so is probably the next most likely candidate.
