This is the Barry Rowlings Cup. There's still a lot to play for.

Not disputing you there TB, I wouldn't have a clue but was sent this e-mail today. I haven't bothered checking it's accuracy either.

Someone said that the cup is the Barry Rowlings cup they're playing for.

In fact it is the Col Austen Cup, a former Hawthorn player who won the Brownlow retrospectively, who left the Hawks in protest when his best friend Alec Albiston was given the axe as captain. I can't remember what Col did at Richmond - I've got his details on the booklet that they gave out at his funeral, but i think he coached the Reserves, and was around the club ever since as a volunteer etc until the day he died.

He was made a life member of the club only days before he died, and was a terrific man - not a well known person, i guess, with supporters, but was a fantastic contributor to both the Hawks and Tiges - and I guess that's why they named the cup in his honour.

I will be there - hell even my Mum is coming.

There are no excuses today Tiger Fans. Todays is about Jack Dyer and all of us being able to pay our respects one last time. We owe the great man so much attending today is the least any of us can do.

Col Austen played for RFC when he first came across from Hawks. As I remember him he was a very clean type of player, not a skirt-around-the-pack sort, much in the mould of a Des Rowe.

I'm glad he has a cup named after him.

As for today's game, I hope you all give an extra shout for poor ol' Roar who can't make it down there.

I'm sure you'll be there with us in spirit Roar, and I'm sure I can manage enough shouting for two, ha. ;D

Apparently there is a special Jack Dyer Footy Record today. If you'd like a copy to read I'd be happy to get an extra copy send to a p.o. address for you.
