Why Adam Thomson Will Be A SUPERSTAR!

Not sure what you’re playing at DD?

Fancy trying to create a positive thread / position about a player who hasn’t even kicked a ball in anger for the RFC.

Not sure if you’re correct or not, don’t really mind. Refreshing to read something optimistic.

I think your analysis is drawing a very long bow and probably a bit inaccurate but I like it's optimism.

It's to easy to find reasons why Richmond is going to suck again next year, I like been given reasons to hope.
Well said Colonel. :clap

yeh dont think the stats mean much to be honest, but have to agree that he is a good player

though im hoping he turns put to be a good player for us we dont need superstars we need good honest 22 blokes on the park playing 4 qtrs of good honest footy plain and simple

Good honest players will get you the Kangaroos - finalists, but not premiers. You need a sprinkling of superstars and the balance to be good honest football players, ala hawthorn and geelong.

people winge on here about having too many flankers and no inside mids

that argument solved

Lets keep the argument going.

im not bagging the thomson selection or praising it. i think everyone would agree we needed inside footballers so i think everyone would agree the club at least is attempting to address a list deficiency every one happy.

imo the angst or concerns comes from from two areas.
firstly once again we trade out of draft picks instead of into them. some may argue its only pick 42 but ico 42 is valuable.so i suppose we are angry about the processes we continue to take.

secondly
there are areas of thompsons game that some have concerns about myself included.theres also concerns about why a big bodied mid can only play 20 odd games at another club in 4 yrs, pretty legitamate concerns ico and both points could well be related.

time will tell how much baggage thomson comes with if any. but at least we didnt trade a valuable pick on another mcmahon type.

about
Durable and consistent are the words that best sum up Cornes. He took his game to another level last season winning the club's B&F which made it his fourth consecutive top four finish. Despite being labelled as a tagger, he won 28 more disposals than any other player in the 2007 H&A season. This unique ability to know when to attack but then defend saw him take the likes of Simon Goodwin, Simon Black, Peter Bell, Lindsay Gilbee and Ben Cousins completely out of the game in 2007. Cornes hasn't missed a game in more than four seasons, spending the second-most minutes on the ground of any midfielder in 2007.

about
Cassisi played as one of Port Adelaide's taggers in 2007 having great success on the likes of Luke Hodge and Brent Harvey. His 107 tackles last season ranked No.1 at Port Adelaide, but this didn't stop him from winning the ball himself. He averaged 22 disposals which included a purple patch between Rounds 12-20 where he averaged 28 disposals, ranked third in the AFL for handballs and fourth in contested possessions. His outstanding season was rewarded with a placing of fourth in the 2007 B&F.

about
Burgoyne has stamped himself as one of the most effective midfielders in the competition. It's the quality rather than the quantity that stands out with him, having more scoreboard impact than any other midfielder in the competition, not only booting 36 goals in the H&A rounds, but also assisting in 17 goals for teammates in that time - the equal-most at Port Adelaide. At the stoppages his work is cleaner than most ranking No.1 in the AFL in scores from clearances and No.1 for clearances inside 50. Burgoyne is an outstanding kick with his kicking efficiency in 2007 ranking as the best of any midfielder and his efficiency over his career also sits comfortably as the best of any current midfielder.

about
Salopek has produced similar numbers in the last two seasons after taking four years to establish himself in the best 22. Injuries saw him miss nine games last season after playing 21 of 22 in 2006. He is yet to break into the above average category of ball winners, however is use of the ball is a highlight hitting the target more than 80% of the time with his handball being his main asset. Salopek was a high draft pick being selected at pick No.4 in the 2002 NAB AFL Draft.

about
Boak exceeded all expectations in 2007, first appearing in Round 12 and holding his spot for the remainder of the season. His average of 16 disposals per match was the fourth-highest of any 2007 debutant, with his best performance coming in Round 19 against Carlton when he had 28 disposals and scored two goals. As a junior he was an aggressive tackler and this continued in 2008 at AFL level with an average of three per game.

about
Thomson has showed potential as an inside midfielder despite suffering lack of opportunity. He has played 21 games at an average of 61 minutes, however he has averaged a healthy 14 disposals and five contested possessions. In 2007 he managed just six games but showed a lot of consistency racking up between 16-18 disposals per game. Around the stoppages he was impressive as well averaging five clearances per game despite averaging just 71 minutes per game. As a result he ranked No.1 in the AFL for clearances per minute.

throw Chad, Peter burgoyne, and Pearce (knobs) into the equation, and although it galls me to say, thats a pretty tidy midfield .

looking at ports % ,96, it's clear they didn't lose their games by too much, and it's clear it wasn't the mids fault, more a misfiring forward line, and average defence.

Salopek really stood up this year, but the real stand out was Boak, who was rated by Chad as a 'future Brownlow medalist' which we all know is garbage because he plays Port and that disqualifies him.

When you stack them up physically, and stat wise, the only thing going against AT is games and game time. Why that is? who knows. Apparently there is an inner clique at port, a bit like 'clan of the cave bear'

- or more probably THEY ARE KNOBS, and he didn't fit in. Pure conjecture.

Whatever the reason, Choco is a huge wrap for him, and was loathe to let him go. Alas, he was surplus to their needs, which are forwards and defenders.

He'll be a superstar for us, because of his hardness at it, and I hope he's given a licence to kill- we been too soft for too long. If our jets in lids, chimp, and axel are gunna really fly, we need thommos ball winning

and farming it out ability to set them free. Lets see what he can do. I hope he seizes his chance to become an integral part of a young and rising gun midfield at the tiges, and quickly erases all memories of TEAL

from his mind- we owe that to anyone- lets make him one of ours!
[size=10pt[/size]
Hopefully we colluded with the dark side, and slide them meyer somehow, and they leave Vickery for us in the ND.

I'll put my hand up early to be El'Presidente of THOMMO such is my faith .Youv'e been warned. SUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPEEERRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSTTAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Indeed, Thomson at Port was a little like Prismall at Geelong. Not in playing style but in relationship with the club. He was finding it very hard to get proper opportunity with Port's midfield and like Prismall didn't see that changing soon, he wanted to leave for a club where he would be given more opportunity with time on ground.

Port or Geelong did not want to loose either of them.
