why did the RFC vote in favour of an alternative strip?

At the end of the day.....if the RFC are winning games of football (inc. finals and grand finals) then i really don't care whether we wear pink tutu's!

Will you care if we are called the Cairns/Townsville "Tigers" when that happens? (who were once based in Victoria, apparently, but all the people who cared about such things are just bitter old "stick-in-the-muds" and don't watch the footy any more.......)

Give away a little of what you are enough times, and eventually you are nothing.

I did say "the RFC" = Richmond Football Club!  Any rational discussion around an alternative strip is circumvented when the fear of "mergers/relocation" is thrown into the mix.  Lets apply some logic rather than draw tenuous links to an emotive (yet irrelevant) factor!

If we were listening to the calls of traditionalists 20 yrs ago we would not have the competition that we have today.

An alternative strip would get trotted out a handful of times during a season, would be in the same colours and would be able to be sold to further revenue efforts. It doesn't sound like the work of the anit-christ to me. Nor the evil work of those who would relocate us to Townsville.

Chicken Little reactions at their best.

Contrived crap.

It is up to the RFC to raise its profile and revenue base to compete with the bulk of the competition to be successful and profitable.

I personally give a *smile* that RFC have been poor performers for 25 years, and an alternative jumper for 1 game every 2 seasons is not going to result in relocation to north Qld.

well bloody said

:clap :clap :clap

Stuff alternate strips we survived 100 years of mud covered jumpers and players without any dramas. 8)

Alternate strips are a commercial exercise aimed at kids and teens, nothing more nothing less. :P

Leave the great tiger guernsey alone. >:(

Just Demetriou and his power mad cronies up in AFL house feeling like they can dictate every facet of the game to suit themselves. Demetriou is a crettin and a megalomaniac that is stuffing the game. DUDS

Ol WA guernesy for mine simple reversal if has to be done but still disagree with all clubs needing alternate strips. :P

Well said DC, this is just what the AFL want, for all the clubs to lose their identity and this is one way of doing it.

Richmond United. you sounded good by using the big word "circumvented," and attempted to separate "relocation" from "alternate strip" in the discussion. it sounded good but then you bugger it up by camparing to the competition 20 years ago (VFL) compared with today (AFL). :ner

Will only use it a few times during the year - say 4 or 5.

Won't be selling our souls.

Yep...err except if it is not yellow and black they choose.

Now ask yourself who it will be that makes the decision on an alternative strip. Will it be us the members? Not a chance in hell.
The Club alone? Nup.
The Club aided by marketing people? Good possibility. It is at this stage that the warning bells start to sound.
The Club with marketing people and approval (read pressure) by the AFL. The most likely. The freaking sirens are really wailing and the flashing lights are blinding my eyes. Look at Freo and Port!!!!!! Those colours (never mind the songs) are not fit to decorate one of those crocheted toilet roll covers that are shaped like little dolls.

If you give your consent there is NO guarantee that yellow and black will be used and that the design will be appealing to any wide target group of current Richmond members. They may opt for a pink jumper to appeal to a large mass of dormant, gay, Richmond supporters.
No clash, No benefit, No Way.

ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION OF RICHMOND FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED

1 PRELIMINARY

1.3 The principal colours of the Club shall be yellow and black and the uniform worn shall be such as is approved from time to time by the Australian Football League in accordance with its Rules.

13 DISQUALIFICATION OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

(e) If he commits any act in breach of any of these Articles or the by-laws of the Club rendering his membership liable to forfeiture or suspension.

Not a guarantee Tommy but a compelling argument that it will be principally yellow and black.

The next part of the sentence is the one that worries me

It would seem that the Clubs colours and it's uniform are two seperate entities when it comes to the articles of association. At least that is the way that I read that BJ.
The Silver Top jumpers for the Nab and Grab Cup are an example of what can be done without an evident breach of the articles if they do at all protect  the playing uniform. For three or four games in a season it could be argued that you are not changing the principal colours, just as you are not with a predominant Silver/Grey jumper in the Nab and Grab.
I fear that we could see something far worse for an alternative jumper with any colour being used with a small amount of yellow and or black applied if at all. The precedent has already been set and no protest lodged.

Although I am firmly opposed to the idea of an alternative strip, because the only 2 reasons for it are to make more $s for the AFL and to hand more control of the clubs over to the AFL, but what happened to the pre season strip we used to wear? The one with the claw marks on it. That had the colours and was the only alternative strip that hasn't embarassed me.

this alternative strip thing is ridiculous. its wrong. whatever happened to tradition. when you start changing things, the great traditions of the club go out the door and before you know it the club is ruined.
old time tiger supporters will be rolling in their graves. bring back the ORIGINAL tigers jumper i say. Not this new whiz bang black number with the yellow sash. the one in black and white photos that has strips in it. and while we are at it we never should have left punt road. the mcg isnt our home. punt road is.
and as for joining the vfl. bugger that. back to vfa. the vfa served us quite well. joining that rebel group of clubs in the vfl was a disgrace.
all this talk of change is making me sick. i need a bex. and dont even get me started on computers. whatever happened to writing letters. lovely letters written in cursive script. back when children were seen and not heard. strap them i say. bring back corporal punishment. break a collarbone. ah captain blood. i need to go lie down now.
