I'm not saying we were ever going to beat Geelong, but jeez the ump gave them a pretty big help along at the start of the third. Handed them 2-3 goals when the game was in the balance, seemed to kill our confidence. Why is it the umps give the top sides/players such a hand. Players like Scarlett, Ablett etc can hang onto the ball for that extra 3 seconds, run that extra 3 metres etc etc. Are all the umps front running Liberals? Is there an objective equitable one amongst their lot? What does everyone else reckon?

I feel your pain Golly - I was cautious at half time because I know games are won in the 'gieschen quarter' and so it proved again today - disapointed that the boys dropped their heads though after the 3/4 rogering but really

No first bounce in the third - just a free to the Cats.

The Ling goal an error of judgment by Foley but he was held without it clearly.

The Mcmahon deliberate OOB was ridiculous. trying to puch on to Moore.

The king 50 metre penalty very harsh and then a heap of missed frees to us and the reverse to the Cats plus another mysterious centre square free.

We need to become a three to four goal better side to break even it seems!

yep, you spelled out all the decisions I was thinking of, and all at the start of the 3rd. the geishen quarter is a nice turn of phrase lamb. I reckon given that we were playing the premiers, and he ump bent us over, we did alright.

Umpire no 16 seemed to hand it to the Cats on a platter. I developed tourettes syndrome in the third quarter!

what about the one when johnno kicked it on the full 35m out from goal, that geelong player ran over the mark clearly. the umpires clearly chnaged the match in that 10 min period same as they did against the saints 2 weeks ago

its unreal

The two goals we kicked from 50 metre penalties seemed very dubious. Usually evens out in the end.

Game was all over by then.

Yep even my 73 year old mother rang me up and said the umpiring changed in the second half.
But then again she did try and belt Bill Deller with an umbrella as he was walking up the umpires race at the "G" one day ;D

Good thread,
Whilst it would be silly to blame the umps for the loss, there was definately a 'Halo Effect' happening out there on occasions today.

Scarlett should have been pinged for holding it three times by my count. ???
