Why do we play such dumb football?

Kicking to 4 on 1 situations; not seeing the players who are on their own; never, ever having anyone crumbing in the forward line yet having 3 blokes contesting a mark; tapping the ball from a ruck contest into the corridor in our defensive 50; watching the opposing team kick and mark the ball uncontested until they goal?????? the list could go on.... Are the players just "not bright" or "not switched on" because there is no way this could be TW's game plan. Sure our skills let us down from time to time and this causes turn overs - but i think it's the poor decision making that is a bigger problem. Why such dumb football?

Because our team is made up of dumb footballers.

We play dumb footy cos we have dumb footballers who lack the composure and skill to hit up other targets and take the quickest easiest option.

It's only a select few who do it and in time they will be replaced with our gun youngsters who DO have natural footy brains (Connors, Edwards, Riewoldt, Cotchin, Rance etc).

I reckon if you go back and watch every game this weekend you will see every team do one of these things at least once.
I grant you that we make more mistakes than the other teams but we arent a top 4 team.
Football isnt a perfect science. If you want to watch something that is, you shouldnt be watching sport of any kind, or atleast supporting any team in any sport.

Agree we stuffed up quite a few chances & there seems to be a luck of cohessive play between them.

Not sure who we can get in to assist us in this area. Terry Daniher was excellent for a few years at the Pies.
Richo had 3 opponents, we should have made sure other options stayed available. Richo leads the forward behind him stays back behind him. Forward thrust then should kick over Richo, hopefully to a forward being left open.

Today was just dumb, dumb & dumber. We kick 3 in a row in the last qtr & Nth were spent. We squandered 2 other surges to indirect passing. Had we got that right & had the momentum you just never know.

We have the Pies next week.

Edwards and Cotchin are natural footy players certainly.

Won't be long before we richmondize cotchin too. Poor kid.

Yes Chopper you are right footy is not an exact science,however too much reliance on stats,structures,etc can stifle players,especially new players to the fold,who are asked to tow the party line.Sometimes it is better to have a player show his skills without restraints.I do not think that our players are dumb,more likely coached a bit dumb.Hafey coached a premiership team with a good number of rejects from other clubs.His methods were simple,his discipline paramount.Are you reading this Terry?
