In failing to select Rance to play his first game against Port Adelaide, Terry and his mates at match committee have again given away an opportunity to blood a rookie. Because of their commitment to players who have constantly underperformed, there is no space left to bring through our younger players.

Glad to see Hughes and Polo get their opportunities, but what about Cartledge, Collins and Rance?

Bowden, Hyde, Mcmahon, Newman and Pattison should yet again consider themselves fortunate.

Cartledge is a rookie, so unless someone goes on the LTIL, he can't play.

Tough place to debut - AAMI in front of 50k South Australian ferals. Carlton or Essendon in the next few weeks would be ideal.

Cogs should be on the long term.

AMMI would be a great place to debut for any player not scared of his shadow.

Agreed. They'll be lucky to get 35,000.
Tougher ask to debut before 60 or 70,000+ in Melbourne. Regardless of that I agree its poor to only have 1 debutante with the current season we're having.

Newman is our vice-captain and hasn't been in outstanding form, but he's been one of our better players on more than one occasion. No chance of him getting dropped.

I subscribe to Chiang Mai Tiger's theory of Rance debuting against the Blues next week.
Should be good for an extra 5/10,000 tiger fans through the gates.

I wouldn't say Newman has been in outstanding form, solid but certainly not outstanding
In fact both of our vice captains have dropped off a bit this year. Obviously Foley is from the extra attention, but after a very good start to the season, Newman has definitely dropped off.

There's no need to be rushing the kids in their first year. Playing Rance in the seniors this year was always going to be a bonus if he got there. He's had one BOG game at VFL seniors, but still finding consistency.

Surely debuting him this week would not spoil your theory for next week ToO.

Why as the poorest performing side of this decade do we not have the most number of 1st year players?

Even if we fluked the finals isn't it about getting games into the kids?

What the hell is this fascination with Hyde, Tuck, McMahon, Pettifer and Tivendale?

We have been through this math before.  We have played most of the kids from earlier drafts, and those that haven't been played are either underdone (like Collins) or recovering from injury (like Cass).  As for this years draft, Rance was always going to play mid season, and Putt was never expected to play this year at all.

As such, where is this great sea of kids we should be playing?  If they are not ready, not fit, or not big enough yet, we shouldn't be pulling a Zac Dawson on them.

Why not T74 it did wonders for Dawson ;)

Players who havent played an AFL game yet

Alex Rance - I would say he is very close. He is also a tall so is expected to take longer.
Dean Putt - First year ruckman, dont expect much from him.
David Gourdis - Was taken as a project player, also a tall.
Jarrod Silvester - He is a rookie
Travis Casserley - Would of played a few if it wasnt for injuries
Andy Collins - He is probably the only one you could make a case for

Good call checkers and Collins is playing for Coburg ressies this week so stuffed up in Tassie.

while i agree that only collins and rance have a case for selection it would be nice to see graham, connors, cleve etc all playing together with our other young players at richmond
