Why is it so??

Oh clawed one, how about just a tad of praise now and again. We won, and won well against the second best side in the competition. Surely that rates some praise.

I don't so much care for the way it is said, but sadly enough, if we're being serious, he speaks the truth lol. You can't expect/demand credibility for a one-off won. Winning big games consistently deals with that. That said, such days are fast approaching I feel, and a win is a win after all!

Its as simple as this. Last year we finished bottom of the ladder with 3 wins. This year we have made some improvement in many area's, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

But some seem unable to fathom the fact that if we regularly beat top 8 sides, we might just be a top 4 side.

Did people really expect us to go from a bottom of the ladder side to a side that regularly beats the top 8 sides.

It appears some are more concerned about bleating the flaming obvious that acknowledging a good win when it comes along.

All of this can be debated ad infinitum, but what I was referring to was that we had just soundly defeated the second best team this year, and as usual, we got no plaudits for doing so. We did not win the game, Hawthorn lost it., according to the scribes.

This seems to be the norm whenever Richmond are lucky enough to win a game, and has been so for years.

The media just won't accept the fact that at times we were the better side on the day, as we were on Sunday. If you doubt that, have a look at the replay on Fox. Hawthorn were outplayed!!! Great tackling and better use of the ball, had us win by 29 points...a great win by anyone's standard.

Respect from outside the club will come with consistent winning and competitive efforts when we lose. Next year will be a different story. I predict we will win more often than we lose. Respect will come....slowly.

How about Geelong's loss to Collingwood earlier this year? Think they lose respect for that?
Cats didn't lose respect, however, rightly or wrongly Collingwood earned it in spades. Has a little to do with continuity of media spin, i.e the pies coming close to knocking off the cats in last years finals, the big replay blah blah , THE eternal question of pies being flag contenders-gag- BUT credit where credits due, they do come up for some big games

It was a great win against the hawks, just finished watching the replay again, and no doubt we were harder at it, executed our skills better, out coached them, and the backline particularly
backed each other to the hilt. I agree, these are the elements of the game that should have been reported on. However, as every tiges supporter knows, its very easy to blow your bugle
at a false dawn, and it seems the media are waiting, like we are, for consistent results over a period of time, and more importantly, winning crunch games when the spotlights on us.

Or it could be the journos took the lazy option on the weekend and had their show stopper articles pre-written about boobys 100th goal in hawthorns crushing win over us, and we rained on the parade. Go TIGGGUUURRRZZZZZ!!!!!

so we have no respect. let's imagine it was Carlton that beat the Hawks on the weekend and not us. What would the press have said then? Yep, Judd and Fev would have been all over the back page, quoted in every article, and their youthful and developing midfield plauded.

And yet how much more credibility than us do they deserve? Graystar has a point. Maybe Zero is right too. Perhaps the articles were pre-written.
I was pretty annoyed at the wide assumption in the media leading up to the game that Buddy was going to kick 9 against us.

We deserved credit, as every young, developing team does when they pull off an upset. And we didn't get it.

Slowly?

How much slower can we get?

Its only taken 25 years for *smile* sake!! :old :old :old

I'm not one to make excuses for Hawthorn. They're light and soft around the perimeter with only a few genuine hard types to win the ball.

Mitchell is key and Tuck schooled him. Sewell is a hard working inside type and he just got square against youngsters like Cotchin and Edwards and Hodge doesn't play inside mid (partly to avoid aggravating lingering injury). He plays the lowest of all positions LMID.

Let's not accept the Hawthorn kicked badly for goal excuse. It happens to all teams that don't have big marking players in their forward line. Roughead was beaten comprehensively and Buddy kicked as Buddy does. He missed some gettable and pulled off the odd prayer. But he didn't work in man country because he can't.

Players like Ladson, Guerra, Birchall, Williams were exposed. And even Brown was fully outplayed at times. Bateman did well despite the average tagging of Polo (dropped) and he's one that a real AFL player destroys.

But, Hawthorn lacked zing and I reckon that while Footscray is publicising its heavy work month the Dawks are doing the hard yards quietly in preparation for the finals. And are wearing lead boots while they do.

That said, a lot of credit has to go to our panel for exposing the weaknesses in their rolling zone. For those of you not familiar with the theory prior to our demolition of it it goes something like this - Hawthorn saturates the area an opposition player can kick or handball to but if you can get past the zone you will score freely as the rest of the ground is poorly defended. They rely not on the quality of player they have in defence but on the number.

We held on to the ball to make sure our forays forward cleared their zone and scored freely on the few occasions we sent it in. We switched often and wore them out.

Even though the Dawks may have had some lead boots on we exposed the weaknesses of their individuals by exploiting their zone. We did very well.

Expect all finalists who play Hawthorn to use our zigzag ball use pattern and then clear when the zone tires. And use the odd torp. (Did anybody else notice McGuane's torp?) And to score freely if they clear the zone.

Terry Wallace again proves to be the tactical genius of the year.

Yep, and I reckon it was instruction too because it wasn't really the situation you'd go the torp unless you had the green light from the coach.
