Give it the arse Terry. Start breathing a bit of fire into these guys.

If they don't like it. Trade them, delist them, sack them.

Well said, gust.

I doubt Claws needs anyone to back him up but I dont think he wants a side selected purely by age Rosy.
Just wants some game time (not one or two....a lengthy stint) to find out early whether the guys have the goods to make the grade.
For too long the young kids are in and out and no firm opinion is made so we perserve with them when it would be quicker to guarrantee them a block of games and if they do not improve then we can cut them and move on to someone who will realise their potential.

P>S> Rosy......u may be our good luck charm. If you have not seen the last two games u have a 100per cent success rate in 2008. Please watch the Feo match so we can win again.

RR "play the kids" has been a regular cry on PRE over the years despite kids already being in the team. What you say makes sense, and I agree with it, but it's not the way some others have called it over the years. I've often got into debates because I think kids need to earn selection, and they also need senior bodies and experience alongside them to protect them, but others have disagreed and reckon they should just be thrown to the wolves.

I'll be watching the Freo game for sure and the feeling in me bones tells me we'll win. ( I did watch the North game and didn't bring us much luck)

I think TW's thinking is flawed when it comes to the kids. He talks them up but doesnt back his words with action.
Why did we play Tivva (I know he is a whipping boy but I actually like him but he is now on the decline) on sunday whenJR could have got another game under his belt. Sure he is not a midfielder but we had Brown and Lids lounging around the forward line for much of the game so JR could have slotted in and one of those two rotated in midfield.

if you look at sides like hawthorn and collingwood, it's been relatively easy to play the kids because they're surrounded and protected by strong professional leaders on the ground who look after them and give them someone to look up to.

our kids have unskilled senior players with poor defensive skills who don't tackle, shepherd or man up. so they're a) not protected b) under more pressure from the opposition c) under pressure from the supporters because we look to them to lead the way.

(Were Dale Thomas and Scott Pendlebury hailed as the saviours at collingwood or were they allowed to develop at their own pace and show the fans their flashes of brilliance?)

So what does wallace do? play all the kids and "throw them to the wolves" as rosie says, or play some and hope that the bad habits of the senior players don't rub off too badly?

at any other club (except Carlton) you could rely on the senior players to show the way. Not at richmond. even richo (god love him) makes too many mistakes, though you can't deny his passion and endeavour.

I don't think wallace has much choice. Throw the kids to the wolves. Give them games. Encourage them to grow into a strong solid unit who play for each other. Drag them to the bench when they don't do the team things and let them know about it. Get J King into the leadership group. We need some noise out there.

Teach them how to play afl.

Mick Malthouse had an interesting opinion on this matter today. He said something along the lines of he can't understand why you would play a kid if you were going to make it easy for them, for example Nathan Brown. He tells his youngsters they have a role in the team that they must succeed at. He doesn't wrap them up in fairy floss and start them off on easy scalps, he brings them in for the biggest games of the season, against the biggest names.

If I were a player who was simply expected to do well alongside the best then the confidence placed in me would do me the world of good.

Picture yourself playing your first game in front of a tiny crowd and the coach says "just have fun, you're playing against another 1st gamer so no real pressure".

It doesn't have the same impact on you compared with stepping out in front of 70,000 knowing you must run with Matthew Richardson all day.

Reminds me of how Terry threw one of our own young players to the wolves early in his career... Mr Thursfield matured nicely :)

I think while Terry is currently playing a few kids (not the youngest ones mind you), he isn't giving them enough responsibility. He is relying on the senior players to do the important stuff in most cases.

When Schulz plays forward it's a matter of "just try and steal a couple" instead of being used as the focal point.

Thursfield is really the only youngster who is vital to our structure.

Its true Benny....and a few on here have said it week after week. i.e. Get Hughes at CHF, let schulz take FF and Jack staying deep - but it never happens. Its still a Richocentric fwd half with all responsibility on the big man and Browny. In the middle only now we are seeing some youngsters rotate through.

This club of all clubs should be letting our youngsters take some responsibility as our senior group simply cant get the job done week in week out.

Throwing the kids into the wolves....pphhh what a joke....when you win the spoon and are staring down the barrel of another less than productive yr - who honestly gives a rats toss bag?

I know there are varying opinions on patto on this forum (personally i love him) but he is another example of a kid being thrown to the wolves and improving out of sight...

8ball maybe plough is afraid of blood spillage if richo is not in the starting 18? start him on the bench. see what happens. If nothing else it will surprise the opposition coach.. it's something DIFFERENT after all

i cant believe you cried when we lost on sunday....

you must have been sobbing uncontrollably when we got beaten by essendon last year...now THAT was sad....

If thats true then we are heading down the same path of the last 25yrs. Get some balls Wallace.

an interesting fact was brought to my attention yesterday.

15 of the players that played on sunday, played in frawleys last game as coach....

hmmm. seems frawley did better with them.

and we as a club have not moved on.

Bingo Benny Hill. I think you hit the nail on the head here. He is relying on senior players to do a job they simply aren't capable of doing. Start phasing them out and throw the responsibility to the youngsters. Axel was another who blossomed when thrown a bit of reponsibility, now all he needs his some bloody mates to help him out.

I remember Wallace promising that Richmond supporters would no longer have to head off to a match full of pessimism, wondering how much we were going to lose by. Instead there was going to be an attractive, fast brand of football with 16 goals or so scored. (or words to that affect)

I must say I am not enjoying watching any of our games anymore. I'd prefer to watch other teams and save myself the heart ache and frustration. I love the tigers and I will continue to buy my membership, but as Royce Hart famously said recently, I don't enjoy watching a losing team. (week after week, season after season :'()

Everytime we play I find myself wondering how much we are going to lose by, and just hope it's not going to be a blow out. That is just so wrong. I would love to go to the footy like i used to, thinking we had a good chance of winning, or at the very least, a good close contest.( yes I have been lucky enough to live through the golden era, but didn't appreciate it enough)

I'm sick of making excuses for poor performances to workmates, friends etc. that get secret pleasure out of seeing us wallow in mediocrity. The only joy I've had in recent years is hoping the new recruits kick on, but lately this has been disappointing too. Many seem to be not developing, or actually losing their confidence. Its like our club drains any talent out of anyone that comes to us. The kids that I would like to see play are wallowing at Coburg trying to overcome injury (Connors and Edwards) or are just not being given much of a chance (Riewoldt, Hughes etc). Cotchin has totally missed the pre season so we can't expect too much there either. Our best players have had their careers destroyed by severe injuries (Cogs and Brown)

I mean, how unlucky are we? It's like the place has been cursed. I think we need to put our money into an exorcism, rather than spend it on the footy department.
:-\

No more drafting players that can't kick to position, or who are dumb footballers under pressure. At least tackle and pressure the opposition, make them turn it over. Be nasty.

I've had a gutfull and I think most other Richmond supporters on here feel the same. I've always been an optimist about the Tigers, but I think I either want to shield myself by pretending I don't really care, or I'm going to turn feral, I haven't decided which way I'll go yet. I'll review after round 15. ;)

Great post STRIPES17...i think most of us have the same feelings at the moment. There is something so mediocre about this footy club its unbelievable. Other supporters laugh at us - its that bad. I never go to games anymore thinking we are a realistic chance. I mean how many upsets have we caused in the last 5-10yrs? Wouldnt of thought many. Its sad....it truly is. There has been no directional change IMO. Game plan - whatever it is - isnt working with this group. I like Wallace but if he wants play this hard running highly skilled game plan then he has to have the balls to play guys who can play this game plan over senior guys who are stuck in their ways. Our senior core is a cancer....they know only one way - and you cant blame them. But we are in dire straights here...we need someone at the club to make some massive calls on these players for the good of the team and the club. I want the day when i go to the footy and see players like COnnors, Lids, Cotchin, Edwards, Tambling, Casserly etc running the lines playing hard footy and hitting guys lace out. I want the day when we i read in the paper Reiwoldt 5 and Hughes, Schulz 3...not if Richo doent kick 6 we are screwed.

things must change cause quite frankly i for one as a paid up member am completely disinterested with this club at the moment....thank god for PRE!!  :)
